Andy Richter Claims U2’s the Edge Wrote an ‘Elf’ Sequel Screenplay

"It’s the weirdest story, but apparently it was fully written somewhere in the world," actor says. "There is an Edge-penned Elf 2 out there" Andy Richter, who had a small role in the 2003 Christmas classic Elf, revealed in a new interview that U2’s the Edge wrote a screenplay for the sequel to the Will Ferrell-starring film. For over two decades, Elf fans have clamored for a sequel to the film, and while an Elf 2 came close to happening in 2013, Ferrell ultimately decided against reprising the role of Buddy. At some point after the film’s release and rise to holiday favorite, as Richter told Obsessed: The Podcast, Elf producer Shauna Robertson received a phone call from an unlikely screenwriter pitching a meeting about Elf 2. “Somebody reached out to her and said, ‘The Edge from U2 has written a sequel to Elf, and he wants to talk to you about it,’” Richter said. “It’s the weirdest story, but apparently it was fully written somewhere in the world. There is an Edge-penned Elf 2 out there.” Richter added that the meeting “never happened.” “It’s one of those things where she’s like, ‘All right, sure, I’ll meet him,’ and then it just petered out and never happened,” Richter said. Trending Stories While the Edge has hundreds of credits on his IMDB page thanks to his work with U2, “Screenwriter” is not among “Composer,” “Soundtrack,” and “Actor” (as himself) in his filmography. However, the Edge has served as a producer on a handful of occasions on non-U2 projects, including documentaries and short films. The Edge has not commented, ever, on his Elf 2 script. U2, however, will gives fans an early Christmas present next week with the arrival of their new album Carnaval de Luz.
