Kurt Vile Brings Out Ethan Buckler For A King Kong Song In Louisville

On Friday night, Nov. 6, Kurt Vile brought out local legend Ethan Buckler of Slint and King Kong for a performance of the latter band’s “Old Man On The Bridge” during his show at Louisville’s Headliners. Buckler also appeared on Vile’s latest album, Philadelphia's been good to me, contributing backing vocals to lead single “Chance To Bleed.”Earlier in the week, on Monday, Nov. 2, Vile and the Violators ripped through “99 BPM” on The Tonight Show. The appearance came with an added bit of history: a few years ago, Jimmy Fallon devoted an entire “Do Not Play” segment to poking fun at “Old Man On The Bridge,” only to have the song quickly win over both him and Questlove. It made for a full-circle week for the song, which went from the butt of a late-night joke to a moment of celebration onstage in Buckler’s hometown.Check out a video of the performance, thanks to Drew Mihans, below.
