(Supplied: Victoria Police)In short:A man and woman have been charged with assault and trafficking steroids after allegedly administered injections to a man with a long-term illness.Police allege the pair were pretending to be doctors and charged more than $20,000 for botched treatments.What's next?The accused could face further charges from the medical regulator, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.A man and woman allegedly pretending to be doctors have been charged with trafficking steroids, possessing drugs and common assault in Melbourne's Bayside after they administered injections to a man with a long-term illness.Victoria Police began investigating the pair last month after receiving reports the duo were claiming to be medical practitioners in the Brighton East area.Police allege the pair had charged more than $20,000 for their services this year in a series of "botched treatments" that involved administering injections to a man with a long-term illness that were believed to assist in treating his condition.But police believe other treatments allegedly contained common ingredients such as vitamins and protein powder.Victoria Police said when officers searched a unit on Carr Street in Brighton East and an apartment on Caulfield Boulevard in Caulfield North last week, they allegedly found a "stash of cocaine" and "significant quantities" of prescription medicines including testosterone, synthetic anabolic steroids, painkillers and human growth hormones.A 32-year-old woman and 39-year-old man from Brighton East were arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking steroids along with possessing cocaine, a drug of dependence and a schedule 4 poison.The pair were also charged with common assault and obtaining property by deception.Police said further charges were expected to be laid by the medical regulator over allegedly claiming to be a registered medical practitioner and administering a drug of dependence without authority.The pair were granted bail and are set to appear in Moorabbin Magistrates Court on October 19.
