AI CEOs’ push for regulation is their attempt to keep out competition: Tiana Lowe Doescher

Washington Examiner economics columnist Tiana Lowe Doescher expressed skepticism over why artificial intelligence leaders suddenly want to regulate the market, not fully buying into the idea that “AI will kill us all.”“Look, I don’t believe this for one second,” Doescher said on Newsmax’s The Right Squad Monday. “Jacob Coxon was at Anthropic for four months. This guy is younger than I am; he’s 27 years old, and he’s saying, ‘It’s going to destroy us all.’ This is basic market manipulation.”Lawmakers and AI companies have pushed for the technology to be regulated, warning of potential risks in the future. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was among the recent politicians to join the discussion, proposing a bill to ban superintelligence AI. Doescher said CEOs such as Anthropic’s Dario Amodei and OpenAI’s Sam Altman were contradicting themselves. “So Dario Amodei says on the one hand, ‘This is going to kill us all, we need to go to the Chinese, we need to work with the bad guys,’” Doescher said. “His [initial public offering] is next month! He’s aiming for a $2 trillion valuation on the NASDAQ. You don’t do that if you think that this is an existential threat to humanity.” Doescher said Altman was the same story, preaching about regulation while continuing to make a profit. “What this is is classic duopoly,” Doescher said. “You have two large, controlling interests saying, ‘Let’s regulate this industry now so that way, no one else can get in.’”VANCE SAYS AI DOOM WARNINGS FROM TECH CEOS FEEL LIKE A ‘TROJAN HORSE’Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has preached about the importance of expanding AI, with his “Whoever wins AI, wins” slogan. “President Trump understands that, absent the AI revolution, the data power expansion, we would be in a technical recession,” Doescher said. “So the entire economy right now is this AI growth. This was part of the [One Big Beautiful Bill Act].”
