The University's decision is a welcome step towards ensuring clean, transparent and dignified student union elections," the organisation said in a statement.It added that the University of Delhi is not just a centre of learning but also an important platform for nurturing democratic values and leadership among students. "Therefore, ensuring that student union elections are conducted on the foundation of dignity, discipline, ideology and dialogue is the collective responsibility of every student and student organisation," it said.ABVP CALLS IT A STEP TOWARDS TRANSPARENT STUDENT ELECTIONSAccording to the statement, the decision was taken during a meeting held on July 16 between the university administration, DUSU office-bearers, and representatives of various student organisations. Under the new guidelines, the University of Delhi will strictly enforce a "no painting, no printing, and no pasting" policy during the election campaign. Only handmade posters displayed on the designated "Wall of Democracy" will be allowed, while all forms of printed campaign material have been banned.The university has also prohibited the entry of heavy vehicles, including JCBs, tractors, and cars with tinted windows, into the campus as part of efforts to ensure a disciplined election process.ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma welcomed the measures, saying the university's efforts to make the election process more disciplined and transparent, in line with the Delhi High Court's directions and the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations, were highly commendable."The provisions relating to the protection of public property, environmental conservation, a clearly defined code of conduct for election campaigning, and the preservation of the academic dignity of the campus will contribute significantly to creating a responsible and ideal electoral environment," he said.CALLS FOR RESPONSIBLE STUDENT POLITICSSharma said the ABVP has always advocated issue-based, positive, and value-driven student politics. He expressed confidence that all student organisations would adhere to the university's guidelines and code of conduct during the election process while ensuring healthy democratic competition and keeping students' interests at the forefront.The organisation said the new measures would help preserve the academic atmosphere on campus while encouraging elections based on ideas, discipline, and constructive dialogue.
