More than 900 wildfires burned across Canada in summer 2026, forcing thousands of people to evacuate. The wildfires also shrouded much of the United States in smoke, fueling tensions between the two neighbors as U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Canada with tariffs and blamed the country for "poisoning our air." Meanwhile, Snopes fact-checked a fake Truth Social post alleging that Trump said he would turn on a "giant faucet" in California to extinguish Canada's wildfires.
