2 men pose as bank staff, dupe people across several states with credit card offers

Meerut police have arrested two men accused of posing as bank employees to cheat credit card holders. The case spans multiple states and investigators say the fraud reached about Rs 20 lakh.Meerut police have arrested two men accused of posing as bank employees to cheat credit card holders.Two men have been arrested in Meerut for posing as bank employees and duping people on the pretext of increasing their credit card limits and offering attractive deals, police said.Police identified the accused as Shivansh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad, and Arjun Tank, a resident of Delhi.During questioning, police found that the accused obtained data of credit card holders and contacted them over the phone. They introduced themselves as bank employees and offered to increase the customers' credit card limits or provide other attractive offers.Once a customer was convinced, the accused sent a link to their WhatsApp. The victims were asked to enter bank and credit card-related details through the link, after which the accused also obtained their one-time passwords (OTPs). Police said the accused then used the credit cards to make online purchases and commit fraud. Police said the accused travelled to different locations in a Baleno car to conceal their location and carried out their cyber fraud activities from those places.The investigation found 14 cyber fraud complaints against the two accused across different states. Of these, 12 complaints were linked to Shivansh and two to Arjun. The complaints have been registered in Bihar, Telangana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, among other states. After the two were arrested, police recovered 10 mobile phones, four debit cards, two NCMC prepaid cards and a Baleno car from their possession. Police are now gathering details of other complaints and the money obtained through the fraud.
