10 Underrated X-Men Heroes Who Are Ridiculously Powerful

Published Oct 12, 2026, 11:00 PM EDT Mark has been a comic book journalist for over 15 years and has interviewed comic book creators like Gail Simone and Caspar Wijngaard. And when he's not writing, he's working on beating his record of 1,200 comics read in a year. Sign in to your ScreenRant account The X-Men are the most powerful superhero team in comics. Sure, the Justice League has Superman, the Flash, and Wonder Woman, but Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants have contingencies for even the most powerful people. For example, there are magic users for Superman, an overabundance of fighters to overwhelm Wonder Woman, and enough telepaths to stop the Flash's Speed Force. Another thing that makes the X-Men dangerous is that they have a strong variety of characters that are underrated yet undeniably formidable. Forge can make inventions to take away powers. Mystique learned to use her shape-shifting abilities in ways no one thought imaginable. They’re only two of the many undervalued X-Men in their vast roster. 10 M Monet St. Croix, aka M, hit the genetic lottery of mutant powers. She has telepathy, super strength, is invulnerable, can fly at supersonic speeds, and she once used telekinesis while fighting T'Challa. There's also her Penance form, where she additionally gets tougher skin and claws. The best part about all of this is that she doesn't just have the powers. She uses them well. There are many characters who have incredible abilities and underachieve. That isn't the case with Monet. She has a way of doing amazing things that reminds readers that she has the potential to be one of the best. While she hasn't gotten there yet, her time during Gail Simone's Uncanny X-Men could be the series where she gets the respect she deserves. 9 Manifold When Nick Fury first recruited Eden Fesi in Secret Warriors, it seemed like he would just be someone who could be used for transporting people and things in a hurry. As time went on, Manifold learned to do more than teleport around the world. He could move across the universe thanks to an understanding of space and time. Calling Eden a teleporter downplays what he can do. Marvel says it best by calling him a universal shaper. In S.W.O.R.D. No. 11 (written by Al Ewing), Manifold mentioned that he “talked to space.” It’s an easy way of saying that he understands time and space better than anyone, which allows him to do the impossible. The only person in comics better than him might be Invincible’s Angstrom Levy. Given enough time and practice, it wouldn’t be surprising if he could surpass him. 8 Hellverine The son of Wolverine, and the mutant formerly known as Daken is more than his claws and heightened senses. Granted, those are both impressive, but that’s just the beginning. His greatest attribute is probably his pheromone powers, which allow him to manipulate other people's emotions. Not to be outdone are his new abilities thanks to being possessed by the demon Bagra-ghul. When he's the Hellverine, Akihiro’s claws and skull are on fire, and he can sense evil and sin from great distances. And like Ghost Rider, his vehicles can be engulfed in flames. All of this makes him cooler than he already was. 7 Jitter Sofia Yong hasn’t been in Marvel Comics long, debuting in Uncanny X-Men #1 in 2024, but her potential is already off the charts. She has the ability to call on and use the skills of anyone for one minute. That may not seem like much, since there are people like Taskmaster and Echo in comics, but even they can't just become a great detective by seeing someone do it. But what I do best isn’t very nice.” You’re the fierce loner who acts first and philosophises later — but beneath that adamantium-plated exterior beats a heart that cares far more than you’d ever admit. You’ve been burned enough times to distrust the world, so you keep people at arm’s length, yet you’d throw yourself into any fight to protect the ones who slip past your defences. You don’t need a cause or a manifesto — you just need someone worth fighting for. Like Logan, your greatest strength isn’t your claws or your healing factor; it’s the stubborn refusal to let the people you love face danger alone.Fierce Protective Resilient Untamed 🧠 Professor X (Charles Xavier) “Just because someone stumbles and loses their path, doesn’t mean they’re lost forever.” You’re the visionary who sees the best in everyone — even when the world gives you every reason not to. Your greatest power isn’t telepathy; it’s an unshakeable belief that understanding and compassion can bridge any divide. You lead not through force but through hope, building bridges where others build walls. Some call you naive, but you know that real strength lies in extending a hand to your enemy. Like Charles Xavier, you carry the weight of a dream that most consider impossible, and you refuse to let it die.Visionary Empathetic Diplomatic Hopeful 🧲 Magneto (Erik Lehnsherr) “Peace was never an option.” You’re the survivor who learned the hardest lesson life has to offer: the world will not protect you, so you must protect yourself. Your conviction is unbreakable and your patience is terrifying — you’ll wait years to set the right plan in motion. You don’t hate humanity; you simply refuse to let your people be victims ever again. Every action you take, no matter how ruthless, is driven by a profound love for those who share your struggle. Like Erik Lehnsherr, you are both revolutionary and tragic — a leader forged in pain who will bend the world before it bends you.Resolute Strategic Ruthless Unyielding ↻ PLAY AGAIN During the X-Men crossover, Age of Revelation, Sofia grows up and holds some of her skills indefinitely. Sadly, this comes at a price. She hears voices. This could happen, or maybe the Age of Revelation is why she has a problem with her powers. Either way, she’s underrated now, but destined for great things. 6 Iceman It’s truly unforgivable that people look at Robert “Bobby” Drake and think he only makes ice. It’s kind of like how some people think Flash only runs fast. In actuality, Iceman does more than that. His powers have been called hydrokinesis, control over moisture, and more. Even those terms are only part of the uncanny things that he can do. Iceman has caused a worldwide winter, made fists out of ice, and once froze Hell over. He’s so powerful that even Thor is intimidated by what Bobby can do. The only limitation is his imagination, and this is something Wolverine recognized. Back in Wolverine and the X-Men, Logan challenged Iceman and told him to step up. Since then, Bobby has been living up to his omega-level mutant title. He creates semi-sentient ice /snow clones, regenerates himself from even the smallest bit of water, and can make himself as big as a kaiju. This is what he’s done so far. Imagine what he’ll do next. 5 Emma Frost Some people may be reading this trying to figure out how Emma Frost, one of the most powerful telepaths in the world, is underrated. In terms of powers, yes, the White Queen is aptly rated. The part that gets lost is how creative and vindictive she is. Emma Frost is one of the pettiest people in comic books. A personal favorite is when she made two goons vomit uncontrollably for 48 hours after hearing the words “parsley”, “intractable”, and “longitude." In her defense, they were trying to kill her, and it’s pretty funny. 4 Magik Illyana Rasputin became an angry, vengeful, and sometimes bitter adult. Years of trauma and a time in Limbo (essentially Hell) will do that to anyone. However, Magik didn’t spend her imprisonment there feeling bad for herself. She honed her magic abilities and became someone who could one day be the Sorcerer Supreme. In Ashley Allen’s Magik and Magik and Colossus, readers see that Illyana is ready for prime time. It isn’t just her power. She’s done some creative things like speaking a spell underwater and using it to electrocute Rusalkas (Russian Sirens). I fully expect her to have a breakout year in 2027 or 2028. 3 Multiple Man She-Hulk once told Jamie Madrox that he’s a boring guy who creates more boring guys, as a summary of Multiple Man's gifts. Like Iceman, that’s a simplistic explanation. Yes, he essentially does just create copies of himself, but like many people on this list, he’s creative. Jamie decided to be better than who he was and sent duplicates of himself worldwide. Their job was to learn something so Madrox could reabsorb them and gain their skills and memories. Sometimes it backfired, like when he wanted to become the world’s greatest detective. Mostly it ended with him becoming smarter, a better fighter, and gaining a greater understanding of his powers. Just think about what you, the reader, could do with more hours in the day. Madrox can do that and then some. He doesn't have the same 24 hours as everyone else. He has that multiplied by whatever number of duplicates he can create. 2 Jubilee If this list were ranked, Jubilation Lee would have been number one or two on this list. The uninformed may believe her powers are producing fireworks. However, Jubilee possesses the power to detonate matter on a subatomic level. If it hasn’t sunk in, she can detonate anything with mass. That includes people. Short and to the point, if she wanted to, there isn’t a being in the universe that she couldn’t kill. Every hero and villain should be lucky she’s not vindictive or willing to kill. Gail Simone has done a fantastic job reintroducing the world to Jubilee in Uncanny X-Men, as has Ashley Allen in Tomb of Apocalypse. Both have Jubilee making bigger explosions, doing it in imaginative ways, and causing all sorts of destruction. Just like Magik, look for Jubilation to have a great year in the near future. 1 Synch Mimic takes the powers of five mutants, but only at half the strength, a reasonably worthwhile trade-off. Rogue can borrow people’s abilities and memories, but only for a short amount of time. Synch doesn’t seem to have a limit to how many powers he can wield, gets them at their full potential, and doesn’t lose them. To add to things, he doesn’t need to touch a person to get them. He just needs to be in their proximity. That makes him a one-person wrecking crew, and maybe the most underrated and least appreciated mutant in the world of X-Men. Maybe ever.
