Zelensky Visits Kyiv Maternity Hospital Struck by Russia as Fresh Attacks Kill 7, Including Israeli Teen

President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday visited a Kyiv maternity hospital damaged during Russia’s Sept. 23–24 overnight ballistic missile attack, as fresh Russian strikes across the capital killed seven people, including a 14-year-old Israeli teen, and wounded dozens. Zelensky met medical staff, expectant mothers and the mother of a baby boy born during the overnight attack. Writing on social media after the visit, Zelensky said: “Each of you deserves to give birth to your child in peace, without sirens or explosions. And every newborn deserves to begin life in peace. We are doing everything to make this happen as soon as possible.” The visit came as Russia launched another wave of attacks on Kyiv on Friday, hitting residential buildings, offices and other civilian sites across the capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said seven people were killed and dozens wounded in the attacks. Among those killed was a 14-year-old boy later identified by Israel’s Foreign Ministry as an Israeli citizen. His mother was among those wounded. Zelensky condemned the strike that killed the teenager as “absolutely savage and sickening” and “devoid of any military logic.” Attacks continued into Saturday, with Klitschko reporting that a Russian drone struck a private medical facility in Kyiv’s Obolonskyi district. Twenty-six patients were inside the clinic. Sixteen were transferred to city hospitals, while three people were injured, two of them seriously, according to the mayor. A separate Russian drone strike hit an office building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district. Four people were killed there, while vehicles caught fire in a nearby parking area and the building was damaged. With explosions again sounding across Kyiv in broad daylight, some residents ran for shelter while others continued walking through the streets, AFP reported. Alisa Boyko, who lived in one of the damaged high-rises, said Russian forces were seeking to “torment” Kyiv residents so that “everyone is affected, one way or another.” Another resident, Mykyta Sysoyev, described the attacks as part of a technological race. “This is a technological race and a technological war,” he said. “Unfortunately, people will suffer while we’re searching for solutions.” Zelensky Says Trump Approved Patriot Production Licenses The renewed strikes came days after Zelensky addressed the UN General Assembly in New York and again pressed Ukraine’s partners for stronger air defenses. During his visit to the United States, Zelensky met US President Donald Trump, with Ukraine’s need for additional air-defense systems among the key issues discussed. On Friday, Zelensky said Trump had made a “final decision” to allow Ukraine to receive licenses to produce missiles for Patriot air-defense systems. “At our last meeting, President Trump emphasized to me that yes, I have made a final decision. Ukraine will receive licenses for the production of Patriot missiles,” Zelensky told journalists. Ukraine has repeatedly sought additional Patriot systems and interceptors as Russia intensifies ballistic missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russian Strikes Hit Civilian Sites Across Ukraine The attacks were not limited to Kyiv. In Odesa region, another person was killed in a Russian double-tap strike on a postal facility, according to Zelensky. In Zaporizhzhia, firefighters and medical workers evacuated seven patients after a Russian drone damaged a hospital and sparked a fire in one of its wards. Two people were injured. The attacks came as Russian forces continued striking residential areas, transport infrastructure, businesses, logistics facilities and other civilian sites across Ukraine.
