McElroy and Tony Giglio, the horror film follows a team of doctors who embark on a medical mission deep in the Amazon rainforest and awaken an ancient colossal serpent. The cast includes Kiana Madeira, Jessica Rothe, and Logan Marshall-Green, who also stars as Pete Calvin in the Yellowstone spinoff Marshals (2026–). Now, a month after its theatrical release on October 2, Beware Boiúna releases on digital tomorrow, November 3. It will be available to buy via Electronic Sell-Thru on participating digital platforms where movies are purchased, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango, Google TV, YouTube, and more. On December 15, Beware Boiúna will also be available on Blu-ray (+ digital) for $29.99 and on DVD for $24.98. Special features include audio commentary with director Mike P. Nelson, Making Beware Boiúna, Journey Through the Jungle: Shooting on Location, deleted scenes, and a theatrical trailer. In ScreenRant's Beware Boiúna review, George Bate rated it six out of 10 stars and wrote that the "giant snake movie takes itself seriously and it pays off... Jessica Rothe and Kiana Madeira star in a suspenseful giant snake movie that excels in its departure from the campy silliness of 1997's Anaconda." He continues: Nelson departs from other giant snake movies, and, in turn, gives his film an identity of its own, by embracing a darker, more mature tone. It's far more tonally akin to Jaws than Anaconda. Premiered at the Fantastic Fest this past September, reviews have been mixed, resulting in a 58% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics claiming that, despite some inventive narrative twists, Beware Boiúna gets bogged down in excessive, chaotic action and a shortage of genuine thrills, ultimately wasting the potential of its mythical monster. Beware Boiúna also has a 68% audience score, but grossed only $924,608 at the box office. Beware Boiúna made history by breaking new ground for the horror genre, removing the shapeshifting element and instead grounding the film in reality, as director Mike P. Nelson explained during an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley: I wanted to blend mythology and science together. So I think a lot of storytelling comes from things that are in reality already. So I feel like with a creature like the Titanoboa, which was from the Paleocene era, 50 million years ago, if something like that still continued to exist, look, 90 percent of the Amazon hasn't been explored yet. If something like that were to have existed while people were still living in the Amazon, is that something where stories were rooted? And so for me, I love the fact that we could bring in that mythos and question and wonder and keep that mystery there: is there something spiritual about her, or is she just a creature? I think you can look at it both ways, to be honest with you. And to me, it was all about the mystery remaining there. With its digital release date arriving tomorrow, audiences can decide whether Beware Boiúna is worth the bite. Release Date October 2, 2026 Runtime 104 minutes Director Mike P. Nelson Writers Alan B.
