Xiaomi 18 Fold launching on Sept 7, leak says it will be more affordable than iPhone Ultra

Xiaomi 18 Fold is set to launch on September 7 with a passport-style design, 7.58-inch inner display, Xring O3 chip and LPDDR6 RAM. Here is everything we know about its price, design, camera and battery.Xiaomi 18 Fold will launch in China on September 7.Xiaomi is bringing a new foldable device to the market. The Chinese company confirmed it at IFA 2026, held in Berlin and also announced the official date for its debut, September 7. If you have noticed something interesting about the launch date, you are not alone. Xiaomi 18 Fold is set to break cover in China just two days before the debut of much-awaited Apple’s first foldable, iPhone Ultra. And if you compare Xiaomi’s new passport-style foldable with leaked images of iPhone Ultra, you may find that both of the devices look quite similar. Now, just two days ahead of the Xiaomi 18 Fold launch, a fresh leak has unveiled key details about the device, including price and major specifications. Tipster Digital Chat Station posted on the popular Chinese platform Weibo that the Xiaomi 18 Fold will cost over CNY 10,000 (roughly Rs 1,40,677). Comparatively, the price is a bit higher than the previous Mix Fold 4, priced CNY 8,999 (around Rs 1,26,599). The leak further states that the 18 Fold might get a special-coloured edition. Now, we only know about the red colour, which was shown at IFA 2026.What we know so far about Xiaomi 18 FoldLet’s start with the design, what we saw in the teaser, the Xiaomi 18 Fold could take a different approach to the foldable phone form factor. While large foldables offer plenty of screen space when opened, users often end up relying on the smaller cover display for everyday tasks. At the same time, compact foldables are easier to carry but usually come with smaller screens. The Xiaomi 18 Fold appears to sit somewhere between the two.The phone will come with a 5.38-inch cover display, which expands into a much larger 7.58-inch inner screen when unfolded. Xiaomi says the folded device is roughly the size of a passport, making it easy to carry and comfortable to use with one hand. When opened, the larger display should offer more space for multitasking, watching videos and other tasks. The first-look video gives us a closer look at the phone’s design. It shows the device in a deep red finish, along with a horizontal camera island on the back. The camera module includes three cameras and an LED flash.Xiaomi has also shared some details about the phone’s internal design. The company has confirmed that Leica has worked with it on the camera system, suggesting that camera performance will be one of the key areas of focus for the foldable. Another highlight is the new “dragon bone” hinge. Xiaomi says it has also used a simulation-based testing system to test the hinge and improve the phone’s overall durability.Under the hood, the Xiaomi 18 Fold will be powered by the company’s new Xring O3 flagship processor. This marks a major change from Xiaomi’s previous Mix Fold models, which used Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. With the new foldable, Xiaomi is instead using its own silicon. The device will also be among the first smartphones to feature LPDDR6 RAM. Xiaomi is positioning the newer memory standard as another major hardware upgrade, which could help improve the phone’s performance and multitasking capabilities.According to tipster Bald Panda, the Xiaomi 18 Fold could come with a 6,000mAh battery. It is also expected to support 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. If these specifications are accurate, Xiaomi could have an advantage over Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, which has generally featured smaller batteries. The 67W charging support could be particularly useful on a large foldable, allowing users to top up the battery more quickly. However, Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the battery capacity or charging specifications yet.The leaked specifications also point to a possible 200-megapixel primary camera, while the fingerprint sensor is expected to be placed on the side.Xiaomi will officially unveil the 18 Fold at its September 7 event. The foldable will be launched alongside the Xiaomi N70 Pro, N70 Max, N90 Max and Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max. The upcoming tablet is also expected to be powered by the company’s Xring O3 processor.- EndsPublished On: Sep 4, 2026 15:31 IST
