Woman accuses live-in partner of rape, says he vanished with iPhone, jewellery

The woman from Punjab alleged that the man from Bihar repeatedly assured her of marriage, later refused along with his family and left with her iPhone, jewellery and around Rs 1 lakh.The two had been living together for several months before the man allegedly abandoned her.Mandi,Sep 28, 2026 20:03 ISTA woman from Punjab’s Mohali has alleged that a man with whom she was in a live-in relationship for several months repeatedly had physical relations with her on the assurance that he would marry her, but later refused to marry her.The woman has also alleged that the accused, who works as a tailor in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, has also retained her iPhone, jewellery and around Rs 1 lakh despite repeated messages seeking their return.She has now approached the Mandi Superintendent of Police's office for the second time, seeking action in the case against the man, who is originally from Biahr's Muzaffarpur.According to the woman, she first came in contact with the accused through social media chats in January this year. She said they grew close and began living together from April. During this period, they also met several times in Mandi and Mohali, while the accused allegedly continued to assure her that he would marry her. She alleged that when she reached Mandi in mid-August, the man and his family refused to go ahead with the marriage. She subsequently approached the local police station in Mandi, where she alleged that her FIR was not registered.The woman then approached the Muzaffarpur police station, where a Zero FIR was registered. The case was subsequently transferred to the Mandi Police. According to the woman, a settlement was reached after the matter came before the Mandi police, following which the accused took her to Mohali. However, she alleged that he left her in Mohali two days later and disappeared.She has further alleged that the accused has taken away her iPhone, jewellery and around Rs 1 lakh and has not returned them despite repeated messages. She also raised questions over the police handling of her complaint and alleged that her medical examination was conducted after a delay.Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said the complaint had come to the notice of the police and that an investigation was underway.The SP said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had also been constituted to investigate the matter.
