Will Stein Apologizes to ‘Elite’ Fans, Vows Kentucky can still Disrupt the SEC

The Kentucky head football coach is not typically a topic in the national sports conversation. Will Stein interjected himself into it with his animated pregame comments, calling on fans to arrive early, cuss at the opponents, and pack a flask. Big Blue Nation responded accordingly, but they were not rewarded with a win over Alabama. Kroger Field hosted a stripe-out for Saturday’s game. Fans filled the queues 45 minutes before kickoff, packing the stands well before the team took the field to take on the Crimson Tide. It felt like a big-time SEC football game. The raucous atmosphere was taken to another level by Mi’Quise Humphrey-Grace‘s early pick-six. BBN was loud throughout the entire first half and into the third quarter, even forcing the Tide to commit a few pre-snap penalties. Unfortunately, that halftime lead did not stick. Alabama took the air out of the balloon by scoring 32 unanswered points in a 45-17 win. “First, I want to thank our fans. They showed out, they showed up, they were loud, they were energetic, and that was amazing,” Stein said after the loss. “I apologize to our fans for the way that we finished.” During Friday’s Paul Finebaum Show, Stein said “Our fans are our team.” Everybody is in this together. Everybody is hurting after the disappointing defeat. “It really sucks. It hurts. It hurt for our team, number one. It hurt for our fans, number two. Especially how they turned out and really showed up for our team,” Stein said after the loss. Disappointing home defeats are nothing new around here. Kentucky is just 2-12 at Kroger Field against Power Conference opponents since 2023. That is a deflating stat, but also one from an old era. This atmosphere was so incredible because people bought into Will Stein’s message. They believed in the Kentucky football turnaround. Stein is not abandoning that belief after one SEC loss to Alabama. “I know we can build it. I know it’s a process. I know we have a good team right now. I know we can go disrupt people in this league. And I know we have the players and the coaching staff to get stuff done,” said the Kentucky head coach. “Again, it’s one game. It sucks, especially being at home with an elite crowd and BBN showing up, so we will do a better job and put on a better show the next time we are here in town.” Got thoughts?
