Despite being one of the earliest side quests you're given in Valor Mortis, Oathbound is one that you won't actually be able to finish until much farther towards the end of the game. After defeating your first Eternal Guard, you'll be tasked with collecting a total of 7 Emblems from each of the elite soldiers. While several of these Guards will offer powerful Amber in exchange for defeating them, completing the quest also offers some worthwhile goodies and an exclusive achievement as well. How To Find Eternal Guards You'll be able to find an Eternal Guard in 7 unique chapters of Valor Mortis, all of which are marked by a chalk drawing of a triangle with an infinity sign beneath it. While you can come across them naturally by keeping an eye out when exploring, several of them require backtracking with future abilities. While the first time you'll encounter an Eternal Guard is likely Lucien Lafontaine, there is actually one earlier on that you can find if you return to Onslaught Arch at the Battlefield. All Eternal Guard Locations Valen Duroc: The Battlefield — Onslaught Arch After unlocking the pistol, fast-travel to this lantern and follow the original path in the opposite direction, crossing the branches and ledges until you reach the other side of the bridge. Heading back towards the start of the game, take a left after the camp and shoot the red Catalyst to reach Valen Duroc. Lucien Lafontaine: Valley of Ashes — The Climb After unlocking and riding to the top of the elevator, turn right and follow the broken scaffolding straight ahead while taking out the Musketeers, then climb the ladder and leap across the gap until you reach the fork in the path. Going right will take you straight to where Lucien Lafontaine is waiting, but continuing straight upwards will let you kick down a ladder for a shortcut directly to the Demolished Path Lantern, saving time and resources on future attempts. Jean Pierre Polnaire: Caverns — Old Mine After unlocking the Statis Transmutation from later on in the Caverns, fast travel to the Old Mine Lantern and turn right to reach the two scaffolding towers. Use the lever and wait until the box aligns with the ledge to activate statis, then cross and climb the ladder. After reaching the top, deactivate statis and use the crate to jump across the other side to reach Jean Pierre Polnaire. Etienne Vauclair: Fallen Village — Marketplace After unlocking the Nephtoglobin Platform ability from the Ship Graveyard Lantern in the Vale of Wrath, travel to the Marketplace Lantern of the Fallen Village, then go through the collapsed cart, past the Volunteer, then turn left before the central gate. After activating the platforms and going through the linear parkour gauntlet, you'll eventually come across a cave you'll need to climb up a spiral to reach the chamber containing Etienne Vauclair. Severin Susse: Cursed Hollow — Deep Water After unlocking the shortcut through the building with the blue and gold pillars next to the Deep Water Lantern, head straight through and climb the ladder on the opposite side of the courtyard. Go straight through the houses once again and hang right up to the wall running platform, then follow the path rightward around the infested waters until you reach Severin Susse hiding behind some hay bales. Adrien Casell: City of Orphans — Shamble Street After unlocking the Shield Transmutation at the University, head to the Shamble Street Lantern and go left through the large gate and head down towards the main road. Turn left and follow the path past the two Volunteers until you get to the poison gas, which you can bypass by using Shield. Continue until you can climb through a broken house to shoot a Catalyst, which unlocks the shortcut to Adrien Casell. Bastien Beaufort: Fortress — Courtyard From the Courtyard Lantern, go through the long corridor with the banner in front before reaching a fork in the road. Turn left and defeat the enhanced Guard at the end of this hall to loot the corpse of the real Bastien Beaufort behind them. How To Complete The Oathbound Quest Once you've obtained all 7 emblems, you'll then need to make your way through the same corridor you found Bastien Beaufort at in front of the Courtyard Lantern of the Fortress, this time making your way all the way down the path until you reach the blocked stone doorway. After interacting with the symbol, head into the secret chamber and pick up the book to complete the quest, which offers the following rewards upon completion, alongside the We Wear The Same Colors achievement.
