He’s currently booked and busy, but where does Mark Ruffalo live when he’s not filming? The Oscar-nominated actor he appears in five projects released in 2026 alone. With that kind of schedule, the Marvel star must maintain somewhat of a nomadic lifestyle. It’s no surprise that, for years, he and his family juggled properties on both coasts. These days, however, Ruffalo is all in on New York—when he isn’t traveling to movie sets around the world.Read on to learn more about the Emmy winner’s homes in the Big Apple and beyond.Property in upstate New YorkRuffalo first visited the small town of Callicoon in New York’s Catskills region in the mid-90s, according to a December 2017 interview with Men’s Journal. Soon after, a 28-year-old Ruffalo paid $63,000 for his first home there: a 27-acre property with a one-room cabin. Around 2001, he and his wife, Sunrise Coigney, upgraded to an estate on a former dairy farm, complete with a 19th-century post-and-beam barn. “Smartest thing I ever did,” the Avengers star told the outlet. “It ended up having a huge influence on my life in many ways.”At first, Ruffalo and his family split their time between their Los Angeles and New York properties. But that soon began to wear on the couple, spurring the decision to sell their Hollywood Hills property in 2009 and move to Callicoon full time. “The whole guiding idea for living upstate was to simplify,” Ruffalo said in 2011. “It’s the best thing I could have done for the family as a whole and for the kids in particular… We’re letting them grow a little wild and we step in when it’s essential, but in a lot of ways they figure stuff out on their own and they do it in a way that’s organic and lasts. We live in a small space and we’re really influenced by the natural world around us. Eventually that is reflected in one’s behavior and how you get along with other people. There’s a lot of quiet in the country and there’s a lot of quietness in my children.”On the farm, the Now You See Me actor built a woodworking shop, a chicken coop, and a garden where he grows “strawberries, rhubarb, tomatoes, basil, corn. A beautiful asparagus bed that’s five years old. And watermelon, which is hard to grow up here,” Ruffalo said. “Now I’m doing a little orchard–raspberries, honeycrisp apples, blueberries, a pear tree.”In the mid-2010s, Ruffalo moved his primary residence back to NYC for his children’s schooling. “We try to get to our place in Callicoon as much as we can on weekends and holidays and of course spend the summer there,” he said in 2016. “It’s a place I will always hold dear to my heart, filled with lifetime friends and lots of positive sentiment. It’s the best most interlocked community I have ever lived in save for my early years in Los Angeles when I was scraping it out to become an actor.” The actor also compared the region to his upbringing in Wisconsin: “Just outside my town there were vast dairy farms, where I would spend my days as a boy fishing in creeks and ponds or climbing around in trees. Everything about the Catskills reminds me of my childhood. I don’t know what to say other than it’s my home.”Hollywood Hills dwellingRuffalo and Coigney were married in 2000 and welcomed the first of three children the following year. In December 2004, a few months before their second child was born, the growing family moved into a three-bedroom Hollywood Hills home that they bought for about $1.7 million. It was the cherry on top of a banner year for Ruffalo, who appeared in four movies that year: We Don’t Live Here Anymore, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 13 Going on 30, and Collateral.According to The Los Angeles Times, the gated single-story residence dated to 1933 and was built in the style of a Connecticut farmhouse. Across 3,000 square feet, it hosted three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a detached guesthouse. Highlights included a fireplace-warmed living room with beamed ceilings and a breakfast room.Ruffalo and Coigney welcomed their third child in 2007, then sold the Los Angeles house for $1.65 million two years later to New Girl star Zooey Deschanel and her then-husband, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. Deschanel and Gibbard divorced in 2012, and Deschanel sold the property in 2015, the Los Angeles Times reported.Carroll Gardens townhouseRuffalo’s next real estate purchase was a $3.5 million townhouse in Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens neighborhood in 2015. Spanning 3,000 square feet, the 1899-built residence had four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a backyard garden, and dreamy period details: cathedral ceilings, marble fireplaces, decorative arches, and wide-plank wood flooring. There was also a large kitchen with a high-end range, a sunroom with a balcony, and a curved wooden staircase leading to the upstairs bedrooms. The actor sold the Brooklyn home in 2017 for $3.2 million—a slight loss.Upper West Side padMark Ruffalo at a rally for the Landmark West Park Presbyterian Church in 2025 Photo: Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin/Getty imagesThough he left Brooklyn, Ruffalo was not leaving NYC altogether—just moving across the river to Manhattan. In January 2017, he and Coigney were seen touring a $9.99 million six-bedroom townhouse on the Upper West Side. While it doesn’t appear that they signed that deed, the couple did pick up a home in the neighborhood at some point thereafter. The Poor Things star has been a vocal supporter of upholding the landmark status of the neighborhood’s historic West Park Presbyterian Church since 2023. In December 2025, he said that he lived “a block away from the church.” While the details of this real estate transaction are unknown, Ruffalo’s Upper West Side residence is reportedly an early 20th-century four-story townhouse.
