When Bipasha Basu was told 'adult love story' Jism would finish her career

Actor Bipasha Basu has said she was warned by people in the film industry against doing Jism, with many telling her that her career would be finished if she took on a film with a degree of erotica. Speaking to Elle India, Basu looked back at choosing the 2003 film after making her debut with Ajnabee in 2001 and delivering hits such as Raaz (2002).Speaking to Elle India, Basu recalled her decision to take on Jism and reflected on playing the character of Sonia opposite John Abraham.She said, "Everybody in the business told me, 'Do not do this film'. They said I would be finished if I did something which had a little bit of erotica,” she said. “And my take was that I’m an adult. It’s an adult love story. It is made as an adult film. It is not for the kids. I really enjoyed the shades of Sonia in that film, and I just knew that I had to do it."She also said the look of her character went on to become widely recognised and started a trend. “Suddenly, the waves and the tongs and the big kohl, the bronze skin, the white outfits, the beach, everything started trending in a big way. The look completely changed, and people really started accepting the bold. So I do think there are things that I have done which changed the way a woman looked at that point of time in our business for the better,” she added. Basu, who is set to make a comeback six years after embracing motherhood, also spoke about facing brutal trolling for gaining weight after pregnancy. She is currently shooting for her return project with Hansal Mehta and will be seen in the crime thriller series Barabanki alongside Sunny Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa.Basu welcomed her daughter Devi with actor Karan Singh Grover on November 12, 2022. Since becoming a mother, she has often shared glimpses of their family life and moments with her daughter on social media. The actor and Grover first met while working on Alone in 2015. Their professional association soon turned into a relationship, and the two married in April 2016 after dating for nearly a year. They welcomed Devi six years later.Basu was last seen alongside Karan in the web series Dangerous.
