Sign in to your ScreenRant account Given the vast array of options offered by the anime industry, it can sometimes be difficult to determine which series will truly appeal to a viewer based solely on its premise. However, just as zodiac signs are associated with specific personality traits and can describe a person's character, they also serve to narrow down the choices and help find an anime that perfectly matches one's energy. That means a zodiac sign can be the ideal tool to help viewers discover an anime tailored specifically to them. Zodiac signs play a more significant role in anime than viewers might expect. Not only are there series that revolve entirely around the Zodiac, such as Saint Seiya, but Japanese creators also frequently link their main characters' personalities to their birth dates. Consequently, viewers who share a zodiac sign with their favorite shonen hero may also find various traits in common with those characters. For viewers looking for a shonen series that aligns with the traits associated with their zodiac sign, the following titles could become their new favorites. 12 Aries - Dragon Ball March 21 – April 19 Custom Image by Zach Zamora Aries is often described as the "warrior" of the zodiac, characterized by a strong fighting instinct, boundless energy, and a constantly challenging nature, traits that perfectly mirror the Saiyans of Dragon Ball. As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries individuals are known for being natural leaders, making it a perfect match for Dragon Ball, an anime that paved the way for countless other shonen series. As a fire sign fueled by adrenaline, Aries is often linked to high energy and being action-oriented. Similarly, Goku and the Z Fighters are driven by burning dedication, whether they are training, saving their loved ones, or facing powerful enemies. Resilience, that courage to rise again and again in the face of adversity, along with a bold, competitive spirit, defines the essence of Dragon Ball, qualities with which Aries individuals will deeply identify. Aries is also the zodiac sign fans have attributed to Son Goku, so it's no surprise that it aligns so well with Dragon Ball's adventurous spirit. 11 Taurus - One Piece April 20 – May 20 As an Earth sign, representing a heavy, immovable force, Taurus is a perfect match for One Piece, an anime that has firmly established itself as one of the great Shonen series. Taurus individuals are stable and decisive, possessing a deep sense of devotion; these traits not only help them fully immerse themselves in the long saga of One Piece but also allow them to connect with the freedom of exploring the Grand Line and pursuing the dreams of each Straw Hat crew member. Taurus is also strongly associated with food, which aligns with Luffy’s voracious appetite and how the story focuses on cooking with characters like Sanji and in story arcs such as Baratie and Whole Cake Island. Furthermore, Taurus individuals also possess a witty sense of humor that appreciates the anime's brand of absurdity, and they value truth and authenticity, being loyal companions who defend their own to the very end, traits that resonate with One Piece's story. Taurus is also Monkey D. Luffy's zodiac sign, making him the perfect captain to follow. 10 Gemini - Hunter x Hunter May 21 – June 20 The multifaceted nature of Gemini individuals makes Hunter x Hunter an ideal choice for them, given how the story handles duality better than other shonen series. Although it begins as an upbeat adventure, Hunter x Hunter proves to be far deeper, darker, and more philosophical than viewers might expect. The series also features many characters who conceal their true natures and have contradictory personalities while thoroughly exploring themes of light and darkness. For Gemini seeking something beyond a one-note story, Hunter x Hunter varies its tone across arcs, shifting characters, settings, and the overall atmosphere, ensuring a completely fresh experience that never grows dull. Likewise, individuals of this sign are imaginative and value intellect, complexity, and versatility. Consequently, the complex Nen power system, which gives rise to battles based on tactics and strategy, combined with the series' intelligent storytelling, offers a constant mental challenge, creating a narrative that keeps Gemini viewers deducing and unraveling mysteries at every turn. 9 Cancer - Haikyu!! June 21 – July 22 Cancer is a zodiac sign known for its strong attachment to others and deep relationships, traits that translate into a great capacity for teamwork. This perfectly describes Haikyu!!, where mutual support is fundamental at all times. One of the most popular sports anime of recent years, Haikyu!! focuses on empathy and emotional support, showing how communication allows players to improve gradually and overcome obstacles that once seemed insurmountable. People born under the sign of Cancer are tenacious and hardworking, possessing a strong sense of self-discipline, yet they are also deeply emotional, traits frequently seen among the players in Haikyu. Just as cancers are natural caretakers, the members of the Karasuno High School team help one another overcome their flaws and become better athletes, progressing step by step in each episode and fostering a dynamic where they drive each other's growth. Furthermore, immense charisma and the ability to forge meaningful bonds with others are qualities Cancer shares with Hinata Shoyo, who also falls under this zodiac sign. 8 Leo - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure July 23 – August 22 Leo is often associated as the most dramatic sign of the zodiac, wowing individuals with a daring self-confidence that fits perfectly with the splendor and theatricality of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Those with the Leo sign often have a flair for grandeur that perfectly suits the franchise's eccentric characters, from their exaggerated poses and commanding presence to the way their unique clothing styles serve as a form of personal expression. The series features many determined and quirky characters who stay true to themselves, even in the way they fight using their unique "Stands," each one with incredible designs. It is an epic saga spanning multiple generations of the Joestar family, with different protagonists for each era, yet every one of them steals the spotlight. The bold visual appeal of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and the infectious charm of its characters make it a one-of-a-kind story, one that Leos, in particular, are sure to enjoy and become deeply invested in. 7 Virgo - Death Note August 23 – September 22 Custom Image by Ana Nieves For analytical and detail-oriented Virgos, the ideal anime is one that challenges the mind, such as Death Note. Centered around a notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it, the series focuses not on physical combat but on a battle of wits. The cat-and-mouse game between Light and the detective L involves meticulous pursuit driven by deduction and logic, making it incredibly intriguing as both characters try to outsmart one another. Those born under the sign of Virgo are pragmatic and intellectual, so they will surely enjoy an anime like Death Note, which challenges their attention to detail while offering a critique of justice, power, morality, and the human condition. Given their productivity, organizational skills, and high standards, Virgo individuals also tend to be drawn to ambitious characters and solid narrative structure. Thus, the fact that Death Note is a relatively short series, requiring no overwhelming time commitment yet still delivering a profound story, makes it a fitting match for them. 6 Libra - Naruto September 23 – October 22 Although Naruto may seem an underdog story focused on hard work, following Naruto Uzumaki as he fights to make his dream of becoming Hokage a reality, the series is deeply rooted in destiny and a quest for balance, making it a particularly good fit for those born under the Libra sign. The greatest proof is how Naruto constantly emphasizes the importance of harmony in the shinobi world, striving to break the cycle of hatred that looms over it. October 23 – November 21 Scorpios are intuitive and perceptive individuals, which is why they are drawn to a well-crafted psychological story like Fullmetal Alchemist. Considered one of the greatest anime series of all time, it revolves around willpower and intense determination, traits characteristic of Scorpios, and follows the Elric brothers' quest to recover their bodies after committing an ultimate taboo. Its plot offers a darker take on the conventional shonen genre and stands out for its profound emotional depth. Scorpios are passionate and resourceful, yet can also be stubborn, traits that describe Edward Elric to a tee, particularly his ability to channel all his energy into achieving his goals with unwavering determination, even if it's long-term. Scorpios also possess keen intelligence, which is why they will be drawn to Fullmetal Alchemist's story, a series rich in symbolism, plot twists, and complex characters. The intense capacity for introspection characteristic of Scorpio individuals also makes them well-suited to reflect on the serious themes the series brings to the fore. 4 Sagittarius - Jujutsu Kaisen November 22 – December 21 Sagittarians are generally known for their adventurous spirit, but what makes them resonate with stories like Jujutsu Kaisen is their strong moral compass, which draws them to philosophical and abstract themes. Philosophy is a major aspect explored in Jujutsu Kaisen, since even though it begins with battles between Jujutsu sorcerers, featuring plenty of humor and charismatic characters, it evolves into a conflict that examines human nature, as well as life and death. The adaptability, outgoing nature, and high energy associated with the Sagittarius sign make these individuals a perfect fit for dynamic, fast-paced storylines like that of Jujutsu Kaisen, given the series' numerous intense battles. The Sagittarian tendency to question rigid structures, while maintaining an optimistic and idealistic outlook, is also reflected in characters like Satoru Gojo, a Jujutsu Kaisen protagonist who embodies the work's central themes and allows viewers to easily connect to him. 3 Capricorn - Dr. Stone December 22 – January 19 Many anime characters embody the Capricorn spirit, but when considering the sign's association with a tireless work ethic, no one exemplifies it better than Senku Ishigami from Dr. Stone, who, quite fittingly, falls under that sign. Capricorns tend to be extremely ambitious and relentless in the pursuit of their goals, a trait that aligns perfectly with Dr. Stone's story, which centers on rebuilding humanity from scratch after thousands of years of petrification. Thus, the emphasis on hard work, trial and error, and progress, regardless of how long the process takes, makes Dr. Stone the ultimate example of self-discipline in anime. Given that Capricorns are practical people, they may appreciate how Dr. Stone grounds its narrative in real scientific inventions, lending a sense of tangible realism despite its sci-fi elements. Furthermore, a key trait of Capricorns is building relationships based on deep loyalty, which is present in the bond between Senku and the members of the Kingdom of Science.
