GTA 6 – there’s still time for plenty of misinformation (Rockstar Games) With the most anticipated video game of all time due out in barely more than a month, a reader advises what to keep an eye out for in the final weeks of coverage for GTA 6. I have been reading GTA 6 coverage for years, and I have noticed something. The louder the coverage gets, the more of it is just somebody’s guess with a headline on it. We are five weeks from launch and the gap between what Rockstar has said and what gets reported as fact is still wide. So I did something unfashionable. I went back and checked what Rockstar has actually said, against what outlets claim it said. Some of it surprised me, because Rockstar has said more lately than the ‘it says nothing’ crowd admits. Here is the split, with dates, so you can check it yourself. What Rockstar has actually confirmed Everything on this list comes from Rockstar directly, from Take-Two, or from Rockstar’s own official videos. Want GTA 6 news? That is 33 days from October 17. Rockstar set it on November 6, 2025 and it has held since, reaffirmed in Take-Two’s 2026 earnings reporting and again in Rockstar’s June pre-order announcement. Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced and there is no last gen version. Setting: the state of Leonida, built around Vice City. Shown in the official trailers and on Rockstar’s own site. Protagonists: Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Dual leads, shown on screen and named in official material. Official videos: four. Trailer 1: December 4, 2023. It set a 24 hour view record at the time. Trailer 2: May 6, 2025. An Extended Look: August 27, 2026. A gameplay video. Launch Trailer: October 15, 2026. Price: £69.99 for the Standard Edition, £89.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Rockstar announced the editions on June 24, 2026 and pre-orders opened at midnight local time on June 25. The Ultimate Edition adds premium vehicles, weapons and apparel, and is digital only. The boxed standard copy holds a download code, not a disc. Every pre-order or purchase before November 20 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack and digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+. Pre-load: November 12. Rockstar gave this date in the pre-order announcement. Boxed code copies also go on sale that day. It is a full week before launch. Soundtrack. On September 17, 2026 Rockstar and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto 6: The Album, 34 original tracks arriving November 19 alongside the game. Six singles came out the same day, from musicians including Travis Scott, Yung Lean, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro and Keith Richards, plus a collaboration featuring PinkPantheress. Separately, Justice composed the original score, and their single Flower in a Hurricane (with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard) debuted in the launch trailer. On the record, but thinner than the headlines make it sound Two topics sit in a grey zone, and this is where coverage gets sloppiest. Map size. Rockstar has published no map and no measurements in kilometres. But during a preview visit in August, Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson told YouTuber TGG that the map is twice the size of GTA 5’s and three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2’s, and that Vice City itself is twice the size of Los Santos. That is a spoken comparison relayed by a creator, not a published spec. Treat it as a credible Rockstar comparison and treat any square kilometre figure as fan maths. Frame rate. Rockstar has not published a frame rate spec. In the same preview coverage, Nelson said console builds are currently running at 30fps, and that whether a 60fps option arrives at launch or later is undecided. The Extended Look footage was also 30fps. So when a headline says 60fps is locked in, it is running against everything Rockstar has actually said. The delay timeline, because even this gets mangled GTA VI has been delayed twice. Here is exactly what happened: Dec 2023/2024 – Original window. Announced as ‘2025’ in December 2023, later specified as autumn 2025.May 2, 2025 – First delay. Rockstar pushes the game to May 26, 2026.November 6, 2025 – Second delay. Rockstar moves it again, this time to November 19, 2026. Date holds through Take-Two’s earnings reporting and the June pre-order announcement. Two delays, roughly a year of total slippage from the original autumn 2025 window. If you still see May 26, 2026 quoted as the current date, that outlet has not updated its facts in nearly a year. What is still just a claim Now the list that matters most. Every item below gets reported as though it is settled. None of it has been confirmed by Rockstar. PC release: unannounced. Reports and listings regularly claim a PC date and none has come from Rockstar. Not once has the company announced a PC version. Take-Two’s chief executive has only said that more announcements will come in due course. Rockstar did bring GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 to PC after their console launches, so a PC version is a fair bet eventually. But nobody outside that company knows when and anyone giving you a month is guessing. Square kilometre map figures. You will still read ‘83 square kilometres’ or ‘125 square kilometres’ stated with total confidence. Rockstar has given comparisons, as above, but no measurements. Those precise figures come from fans doing maths on trailer footage. It is a fun hobby. It is not reporting. A guaranteed 60fps mode. Nelson said the question is undecided. Until Rockstar or a certification body says otherwise, any claim that 60fps is locked in, or ruled out for good, goes further than the evidence. Leaks and insider story details. If it did not come from Rockstar’s channels, treat it as unverified. That includes the weekly ‘insider’ exclusives that never name their insider and any ‘review copies are out’ story without a named source. Rockstar aren’t the most communicative of developers (Rockstar Games) What to watch in the final five weeks The rumour cycle is about to go into overdrive, so here is what is worth paying attention to. A review embargo date. Rockstar has not announced one. If it does, that is real news. Until then, treat claims about review timing as noise. Pre-load file size. The November 12 pre-load date is confirmed. If a download size shows up on the store pages, that is real information worth reporting. Launch events. If Rockstar announces any, that is confirmed news. ‘Sources say there will be an event’ is not. Day one patch notes. These only exist after launch. Anyone claiming to have them now is making it up. The pattern is simple. Real news has a source you can name. Everything else is the rumour mill doing what the rumour mill does. Why the split matters None of this means the rumour mill is always wrong. Some of it will land. The problem is what happens when claims get treated as confirmed: people book time off work, they pre-order the wrong edition, they buy a console for features that were never promised. That is not harmless. That is coverage failing its readers. Rockstar rations what it shows, and that is a choice, not an accident. The coverage should respect it instead of filling the quiet with invented certainty. And when Rockstar does say something, even in a preview chat with a YouTuber, the job is to report exactly what was said and where, no more and no less. Here is the standard I would hold every GTA 6 story to for these last five weeks. If Rockstar did not say it, print who did. If it came from a leak, a listing, or a podcast guest, say so in the same sentence as the claim. Readers will still click. They will just trust you more after.
