Wellington family shaken after pedestrian breaks windscreen of car with them inside

A Wellington family has been left shaken after a pedestrian threw an object at their car while they were travelling through Mount Victoria Tunnel tunnel.Olivia Fuller was in the car on Sunday around 5pm with her two young children while her mother was driving from the airport through the tunnel towards the Basin Reserve. She said she saw a pedestrian throw something at their windscreen about a third of the way through the tunnel."And then the next thing I knew it just smashed into our windscreen," she said.Although no one was injured, Fuller said her six-year-old daughter was upset by what happened."We had sunglasses on and things, which was lucky because there was glass everywhere."The family continued driving out of the tunnel before heading home and contacting police."My daughter was very scared and she tends to stress out about stuff, so I didn't want to freak her out. I tried to stay calm and just get her inside before I called the police."Fuller said she fears the consequences could have been much worse if the object had broken through the windscreen, potentially injuring or killing someone in the car.Fuller said she was concerned others could be hurt.SuppliedShe said her mother was visiting from out of town, and she had honked the car's horn in the tunnel for her kids - as driver's often do.The incident has left the family shaken.Fuller regularly uses the tunnel about four times a week and is concerned another motorist could be seriously hurt."It just concerns me that people were doing that and they might hit someone else and they might not be as lucky as we were," she said. She is trying to get CCTV footage from the tunnel.Police said the report is at assessment stage and that it is fortunate no one was injured, given the potential consequences.Fuller is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward.
