A 'well-known individual' is suing two media organisations to prevent them publishing allegations about him, the High Court has heardIn British law, an injunction is a civil court order that stops an organisation from publishing certain information. They can be sought temporarily if one party believes the other party's actions will cause substantial harm. These are often based on human rights – such as the right to life or the right to privacy – as set out in the Human Rights Act. A judge will often balance this with the media's right to freedom of expression. In some extreme cases, a court can issue a 'super-injunction' – a separate order. This bans not only the publication of information but also prohibits the reporting of the fact that the injunction itself exists.
