Wayne Rooney shoots down Michael Owen after he makes suggestions about son Kai’s Man Utd career

WAYNE ROONEY has shot down former Manchester United team-mate Michael Owen after he suggested the United legend could double up as son Kai’s agent. Kai, 16, is continuing to make his own name at Manchester United after joining the club’s academy at the age of 11. The teenager has now signed a scholarship deal at Old Trafford as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his famous father. But despite having one of the most recognisable football names in the world, Rooney insists he is happy to let his son carve out his own path. And there is certainly no need for the former United and England captain to take on the role of agent. Kai has already signed with Triple S Sports Management, the same agency that represented his dad. Welcome to the team, Kai!” Rooney has previously revealed that he takes something of a hands-off approach to his son’s football career. Speaking to the BBC last year, the United legend said: “He has great coaches at Manchester United, so I take a stand-off approach. “I speak to him, but for me it’s all about his mentality and his mindset, to make sure he keeps enjoying it, that’s the main thing for me.” That approach appears to be working, with Kai continuing to progress through the United ranks despite the huge expectations that come with being Wayne Rooney‘s son. She told The Times: “He’s lived it from a young age. “When we used to go to matches when he was younger, he’d get a lot of people coming up saying, ‘Oh, are you Wayne Rooney’s son?'” But Coleen insists she has never worried about her son’s ability to cope with the pressure. She added: “But he’s strong-minded, always has been. I’ve got no worries in the way he deals with it. “It’s nice that we know what to expect. And we can try to guide him. Obviously, it’s his life, his passion. He can decide what he wants to do. But I think it’s good we’ve got the knowledge.” Owen, meanwhile, has been opening up about his own experiences as a football dad in Meet the Owens. The former Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle and Stoke striker had hoped his son James would follow him into professional football. But James was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a condition which causes progressive central vision loss and can begin during childhood or adolescence. Owen has admitted that he broke down in tears after learning of his son’s condition. Comment now
