Volvo has launched the EX90 electric SUV in India at Rs 1.26 crore, offering a 625km claimed range, dual-motor all-wheel drive and a six-seat cabin.Vishwanathan Anand and Jyoti Malhotra, MD, Volvo India with EX90New Delhi,Oct 12, 2026 13:11 ISTVolvo India has launched the EX90 electric SUV at Rs 1.26 crore (ex-showroom), introducing a new flagship to its all-electric lineup. Offered exclusively in a six-seat configuration, the EX90 combines a 106kWh battery, dual-motor all-wheel drive and a claimed WLTP range of 625km. The electric SUV sits above the XC90 in Volvo's portfolio and brings a newer platform, advanced driver assistance systems and an extensive technology package. The EX90 is priced Rs 27.2 lakh higher than the combustion-powered XC90. However, it enters the luxury electric SUV segment at a lower price than the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 and Kia EV9, which cost Rs 1.49 crore and Rs 1.30 crore, respectively.Volvo is also offering a package of ownership benefits to customers booking the EX90 before December 31, 2026. This includes an 11kW home charger, a three-year service package and an assured buyback scheme offering 65 per cent of the vehicle's value after three years.Volvo EX90: Exterior design and dimensionsThe EX90 follows Volvo's restrained Scandinavian design language, with clean surfaces and a largely uncluttered front fascia. The closed-off nose features T-shaped LED headlamps with pixel-style daytime running light signatures, slim vertical fog lamps and a centrally positioned Volvo emblem. A trapezoidal air intake sits lower down on the front bumper. The SUV's upright proportions are complemented by a 2,985mm wheelbase, standard 21-inch alloy wheels and 210mm of ground clearance. Air suspension is standard, allowing the ground clearance to be raised to a maximum of 250mm when required. At the rear, C-shaped LED tail-lamps are accompanied by a black connecting strip and additional LED elements flanking the rear windscreen. The centrally positioned Volvo lettering and understated bumper design maintain the minimalist approach seen elsewhere on the vehicle.Volvo EX90: Interior, seating and featuresThe cabin continues the minimalist theme, with a clean dashboard, two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, brushed aluminium accents and a three-spoke steering wheel. The main interface is a 14.5-inch vertically oriented infotainment touchscreen, complemented by a 9-inch driver's display. Most vehicle functions are controlled through the central touchscreen, with relatively few physical buttons. For India, Volvo is offering the EX90 only with six seats. The second row features individual captain's chairs with sliding and reclining functions, providing a more spacious arrangement than a conventional three-seat bench. However, these seats do not get the electric adjustment, heating, ventilation or massage functions available for the front seats. Rear-window sunshades are also absent, although the panoramic sunroof features switchable transparency.Access to the third row is through the gap between the second-row captain's chairs, which do not fold down. The rearmost seats are best suited to children or adults on shorter journeys, given the limited space available.Luggage capacity stands at 324 litres with all three rows in use. Folding the third row increases the available boot space to 690 litres. The equipment list includes four-zone climate control, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, configurable ambient lighting, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, a digital key, a cabin air purifier, a 360-degree camera and automatic parking assistance.Safety and driver assistance equipment includes nine airbags and an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite, adding to the EX90's technology-focused positioning in the luxury SUV segment.Volvo EX90: Battery, performance and rangeThe EX90 comes with a 106kWh battery pack paired with two electric motors and an all-wheel-drive system. The setup produces a combined 456bhp and 670Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100mkph in a claimed 5.5 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 180kmph.Volvo claims a WLTP-certified driving range of 625km on a full charge. The SUV is based on the company's SPA2 architecture, which features an 800-volt electrical system to support high-speed charging.Using a compatible DC fast charger with an output of up to 350kW, the EX90 can charge its battery from 10 to 80 per cent in a claimed 22 minutes. With an 11kW AC charger, a full charge takes approximately 11 hours, making overnight home charging a practical option for owners.Volvo EX90: Price and rivals in IndiaPriced at Rs 1.26 crore (ex-showroom), the Volvo EX90 undercuts its key electric SUV rivals on price. The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 is priced at Rs 1.49 crore (ex-showroom), while the Kia EV9 costs Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom).Subscribe to Auto Today Magazine - Ends
