Vizag’s Mahila Manovikas clinches Guinness World Record with 12.1-km bunting with 47,000 crocheted tricolours

The members of Mahila Manovikas have entered the Guinness World Records by creating a massive 12.18-km continuous bunting made entirely of crocheted Indian national flags.The achievement, which featured more than 47,000 hand-crocheted flags, was celebrated at a programme in the city on Saturday, where the dignitaries felicitated the Mahila Manovikas team for bringing international recognition to the region.Speaking at the event, former MP and Viswa Hindi Parishad president Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad commended the feat and congratulated the team. “The achievement is significant not merely for entering the record books, but for fusing patriotism, creativity, and a traditional handicraft,” he said.Such initiatives encourage younger generations to appreciate handmade arts and recognise the patience, discipline, and creativity involved, he said.Women hold a vital role in preserving India’s rich heritage, traditional arts, and cultural practices, carrying them forward to future generations, he added.Mr. Lakshmi Prasad stressed that deliberate efforts be made in a rapidly changing technological world to ensure traditional arts do not fade from daily life.Madhavi Suribhatla, president and founder of Mahila Manovikas, attributed the milestone to the commitment and enthusiastic participation of the organisation’s members.
