A car parked outside a restaurant in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi was torched by a group of miscreants, allegedly after they were denied food by a restaurant that had already closed for the day. The incident took place late at night on Saturday, August 15.A video of the four-wheeler being set on fire has also surfaced.According to a complaint lodged by the restaurant operator, a group of men arrived after the eatery had shut and allegedly forced it to reopen to demand Maggi. When the owner and staff refused, the accused purportedly thrashed them and vandalised the restaurant.A case has been registered by the police against nine identified and 10-12 unidentified persons on the basis of the restaurant owner's complaint. The attackers damaged vehicles parked by the road downstairs with rods and hockey sticks while leaving the premises, the complainant claimed. They also allegedly attacked the staff of a neighbouring restaurant, injuring them.The situation escalated further when a car belonging to a relative of the restaurant operator was set on fire, per the complainant. The owner also alleged that the miscreants used abusive and caste-related slurs and demanded Rs 5,000 per month as extortion money.Police have launched efforts to trace the accused.
