Xbox Game Pass is getting a new free game that feels like the collision between Valheim and Dungeons and Dragons, and if you’re a fan of survival games with fantasy elements, be sure to check it out. Even though some of the biggest releases within the genre have died down a bit in comparison to their popularity at launch, the genre is still thriving with new releases and ways of engaging in survival-themed experiences. Winds of Valen is a new survival game that mixes gameplay elements from Valheim and is also seemingly inspired by Game of Thrones, for example. However, this is far from being the only one. In fact, Microsoft’s subscription service is about to integrate a title in the genre into its catalog, so members of Xbox Game Pass will be able to play it for free. As announced in a post on Xbox Wire, there are seven new games being added to the various Xbox Game Pass tiers in the first half of September, categorized as Wave 1. There are several types of titles, but one of them is a survival game that you may want to mark your calendar for if you enjoy the genre. RuneScape: Dragonwilds is arriving in the catalog as part of the Wave 1 lineup for Xbox Game Pass in September. Developed by Jagex Ltd, the title is set on the continent of Ashenfall, where dragons have awoken once again. It features many of the gameplay elements you’d expect from survival games like Valheim, such as gathering, building, crafting, and more – all of which can be done alongside friends, since RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a cooperative survival adventure game. This new open-world survival game also features a heavy dose of combat, as it pulls from the original RuneScape. Within its RPG systems, you can choose different types of skills, depending on what type of gameplay experience you prefer. You can be a traditional melee fighter or a spellcaster, for example. There are also tons of enemies to fell, including huge dragons that will threaten you and your party from time to time. This is mostly a cooperative experience, so you won’t have to worry about other players attacking you, unless you join a PvP-dedicated mode or server. The new addition to Xbox Game Pass in September arrives on September 15. For reference, this game has been in Early Access on other platforms since March, meaning that September 15 is its official release date – making it, in ways, a day-one release on Microsoft’s service. RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be playable on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and via cloud gaming for members of the Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass tiers. If you’re looking for a survival game with an extra touch of fantasy, like something you’d see in D&D, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a great option. The game’s Version 1.0 release means that you’ll be given access to all the content that was released and updated during Early Access. The best part is that it’s entirely free on Xbox Game Pass.
