VACB arrests Kochi Corporation overseer for alleged bribery

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on Thursday arrested an overseer with the Kochi Corporation while she was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 to settle a complaint against a commercial building and exempting it from further action.The accused, identified as Seena P.R., 45, was arrested from near the Kaloor bus stand around 5.10 p.m. Later, the VACB team also arrested Shanavas P.A., 44, who allegedly conspired with the overseer and demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh to settle his complaint against the building.The owner of the commercial building, located at Kathrikadavu in Kaloor, had approached Ms. Seena after Mr. Shanavas lodged a complaint alleging unauthorised renovations to the property. Ms. Seena subsequently contacted a relative of the building owner over the phone and suggested that Mr. Shanavas be “settled”. Mr. Shanavas allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh and an additional payment of ₹25,000 for the overseer. Published - September 24, 2026 10:59 pm IST
