Va-va-vroom! Vintage fanatics don fabulous furs, polka-dot dresses and leather jackets as they turn back the fashion clock for a day of motor racing at Goodwood Revival

It's the well-known annual racing festival earmarked in the diaries of vintage fanatics everywhere - and Goodwood Revival revellers certainly didn't disappoint this year as they opted for an array of spectacular period ensembles.Car enthusiasts, both young and old, descended on the Motor Circuit in Goodwood, Chichester, on a seasonably cloudy September afternoon. Racegoers donned elaborate period costumes for the three-day event that celebrates vintage cars and fashion from the 40s, 50s and 60s. One of the highlights is the famously adorable Settrington Cup, a two-part race that takes place on Saturday and Sunday, which sees children aged four to 10 compete in Austin J40 pedal cars. On the first day of the festival, flamboyant guests showed off their sartorial flair in an array of ensembles ranging from studded leather jackets to polka-dotted dresses in a joyous display of 'iconic Italian fashion and style'. Even the children were dressed up for the occasion, sporting fetching racing suits and flat caps as they hopped into miniature cars. Fur-clad racegoers posed with long cigarette holders that were popular in the 20s before seeing a resurgence in the Sixties and Seventies.This year's Revival is bringing La Dolce Vita to life with a track parade of over 300 Vespas and vintage scooters, a celebration of Maserati's racing centenary, while showcasing iconic Italian fashion and style. Launched in 1998 to celebrate mid-20th century motorsport, the three-day event has remained virtually unchanged ever since, featuring wheel-to-wheel racing in classic cars surrounded by the fashion and feel of the 1940s, 50s and 60s.According to the Goodwood website: 'At Revival we revisit a time when people would cherish their clothes, cars and special belongings for a lifetime of use.'Between 1948 and 1966, the Goodwood Motor Circuit staged classic races such as the Tourist Trophy for sports cars and the Glover Trophy for grand prix cars.The circuit was established by Freddie March, the 9th Duke of Richmond. However, it was closed in 1966. The Duke's grandson Charles, the Earl of March, revived it in 1998.During the Revival, modern cars are not allowed into the circuit while pre-1966 aircrafts also feature. One attendee smiled in the sun for the annual festival which sees guests 'step back in time' A display team are seen peforming during the Vespa track opening parade The festival has previously described its event as 'a magical step back in time to the romance and glamour of motor racing as it used to be in Goodwood's heyday'. The family-fun experience sees guests recreate an era spanning between 1948 and 1966 when the Motor Circuit was at its peak. There are online Goodwood guides to help you find your ‘look’ – from Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly to 1960s mods and rockers. Military uniforms from the 40s are a popular choice, whereas attendees drawn to the 50s don Teddy boys, pencil skirts and jiving dresses. Women have endless options, from tailored wear to flowing skirts or garage mechanic overalls. Shops on site include those to help you get your ‘look’ and hairdressers to ensure your quiffs match your threads. In addition to celebrity-spotting, shopping is a favourite pastime at Goodwill where attendees can treat themselves to rare memorabillia and souvenirs. Other highlights include the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy with a full field of pre-1963 GT cars including Jaguar E-types, Aston Martins and Ferraris, on Friday evening. This year will see the first ever Sunday Closing Party, with music and dancing. Participants are advised to ‘brush up on your Lindy Hop’.
