When she heard the drone approaching her home, she went outside to see the delivery take place.Instead of placing the parcel safely on the ground, however, the drone released it directly into her backyard pool.“When it went into the pool, I was shocked. I don’t think I’ll be wanting any more drone deliveries,” Lindsey said, according to the New York Post article. Meanwhile, a video of the incident began circulating widely online on Thursday, coinciding with Amazon's announcement that it plans to significantly expand its Prime Air drone delivery network in the US.An Amazon customer in Texas was not enthused when her first drone-delivered order was dropped into her swimming pool. The expansion includes suburban areas around cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, Syracuse and Cleveland, where customers could receive orders within as little as 30 minutes. Prime Air has already completed hundreds of thousands of deliveries this year. Amazon acknowledged that delivery errors can occur but said incidents such as the one involving Lindsey Austen are uncommon."Prime Air provides customers with fast, reliable delivery across a broad selection of products," Amazon spokesperson Allie Payne told Houston-based news outlet KHOU11, adding that customer feedback on the service has been largely positive.Allie Payne said the company reviews failed deliveries to improve the technology and prevent similar incidents. Amazon also pointed to its A-to-Z Guarantee, under which customers can receive a refund or replacement when an order does not arrive as expected.- EndsPublished On: Aug 21, 2026 08:18 IST
