Barbados is under a High-Wind Advisory as strong winds from a tropical wave already affecting the island are expected to intensify later today and tonight. The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) said the wave was located about 290 miles (500 kilometres) East-southeast of the island. The Small Craft and High Surf Warning also remains in effect, with the strong winds already generating hazardous marine conditions around the island. The BMS said cloudiness and showers will gradually increase from late this afternoon, with the peak of the shower activity expected tonight into Saturday. Excess rainfall and thunderstorms are also possible and could result in flash-flood and severe-thunderstorm watches or warnings being issued as the system affects Barbados. Despite the worsening conditions, the BMS said the tropical wave has remained relatively disorganised and there is no possibility of it developing into a tropical cyclone as it affects the island.
