UEFA has stepped up its war of words with Fifa by demanding global chiefs give EVERY national side £7.5million immediately from central funds. In their letter, which they have copied to the other four confederations, the duo state that Fifa now has a record £4.5billion sitting in reserve funds. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! That, they argue, means Fifa must now dig into those reserves at a cost of around £1.5bn to fund the global game. Ceferin and Montagliani – whom many European nations want to see stand against Infantino in the scheduled presidential vote in March, said: “Fifa Forward Enterprise was presented to the 211 Member Associations as a proposal under which a “share” of Fifa’s competitions would be sold to outside investors in order to provide far greater resources for football development. “Our analysis now raises an important question as to whether the proposed transaction was necessary to deliver greater resources to the MAs. “Fifa already has the capacity to deliver substantially more to its MAs from its own balance sheet – without any sale of interests in its competitions, and without asking anything of the MAs in return.” Uefa and Concacaf believe Infantino is concerned that a forensic study of Fifa’s books will reveal financial issues. And they called for an “independent review”of accounts, “with full access to the underlying figures and assumptions”.
