U2 Return to Their Dublin High School for 50th Anniversary Concert

U2 returned to Dublin’s Mount Temple Comprehensive School today, September 25th, to mark the 50th anniversary of their formation. The band staged a schoolyard concert for 1,000 students and staff at the same spot where they first performed together more than five decades ago. According to a press release, Larry Mullen Jr. pinned a handwritten note reading, “Drummer Seeks Musicians to Form Band,” on the noticeboard at Mount Temple in September 1976. Fittingly, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Mullen Jr. played their first-ever single, “Out of Control,” during today’s show. Buy U2 Vinyl at Consequence Shop The group also debuted the lead single, “Silencio,” from their new album, Carnaval De Luz, alongside classics like “I Will Follow,” “Beautiful Day,” and “With Or Without You.” U2’s performance of “One” was particularly special, as they were joined by 32 string musicians from the national music education program Music Generation — each representing a county in Ireland. Carnaval De Luz marks U2’s first original full-length since 2017’s Songs of Experience, and will arrive on November 13th via Interscope Records. Vinyl and CD pre-orders are ongoing.
