Two Lauderdale County residents killed in motorcycle crash near Killen

By Michaela Yielding | myielding@al.comTwo Lauderdale County residents died following a crash involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle near Killen on Friday afternoon, according to the Killen Police Department. The victims were identified as Skyler McGee and Katherine McGee. The department said they were two young people from Lauderdale County.According to officials, the crash occurred on U.S. Highway 72 near County Road 31 at about 1:49 p.m. Friday.Killen Police Chief Bill White told WAFF 48 that a man and a woman were riding a motorcycle when it collided with a pickup truck. Both motorcycle riders were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported by EMS to North Alabama Medical Center for treatment.“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Skyler and Katherine, as well as the family of the pickup truck driver involved in this tragic crash,” the Killen Police Department said in a statement. “We recognize that this is an incredibly difficult time for everyone affected.”The crash remains under investigation.Michaela Yielding is a Birmingham native who covers data, education and more for AL.com.
