Two killed and four seriously hurt as car hits group of pedestrians before head-on crash on wrong side of road

Officers established that a black Mitsubishi L200 was travelling down the carriageway when it struck the group of four pedestrians.It then collided with a black Audi and a silver BMW on the other side of the road, police said.Paramedics and the air ambulance were scrambled to the road, but two of the pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene.Police are still working to identify them and inform their next of kin. Four other people were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit.
