Two dead in serious incident in South Auckland

Police are responding to an unfolding serious incident in South Auckland, which left at least two people dead."At about 1.45pm, emergency services responded to reports of a woman unresponsive at an address on Gambare Place," police wrote on Facebook."Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene."During a search of the property police have located a man who was also pronounced deceased."Cordons are in place on Mahia Road in Wattle Downs.Members of the public are advised to avoid the area.Police at the scene of an incident on Gambare Place, Manurewa.RNZ / Marika KhabaziThe incident prompted two schools, Te Haikura a Kiwa and Leabank Primary School, to go into lockdown. Both have since come out of lockdown.Te Haikura a Kiwa confirmed its response to the incident on Thursday afternoon."Please do not come to the school or phone the school as you will not be attended to and this may cause disruption to the management of this incident and could potentially place yourselves and/or our staff and student's safety at risk," the school wrote on social media and its website at the time.Police at the scene of an incident on Gambare Place, Manurewa.RNZ / Marika KhabaziLeabank Primary School, which is located across the road, also went into lockdown in response to the incident."We have come out of lockdown and all students, staff, and persons on-site are safely accounted for. Everyone did extremely well and responded to instructions," Leabank Principal Caroline McLeod posted on social media after the lockdown had ended."A notice will be going out to parents/caregivers tonight to provide some more information on what has occurred today."
