Works ongoing on the Paradi bridge near Bobbili in Vizianagaram district. | Photo Credit: HANDOUT VIZIANAGARAM/PARVATIPURAM:Travel time between Vizianagaram and Parvathipuram via Bobbili is expected to reduce with the completion of the bridge across the Vegavati River near Bobbili. The bridge across the Suvarnamukhi River is already completed, while work on the other bridge across the Vegavati River, near Paradi village is nearing completion. Presently, the travel time from Vizianagaram to Parvathipuram in a bus takes around 3 hours. This time is expected to come down to around 2.15 hours after the bridge on the Vegavati River is commissioned.Commuters have been facing difficulties for nearly decade because of the dilapidated condition of the old bridges, constructed during the British regime.The new bridge on the Suvarnamukhi River completed a few months ago was constructed at an estimated cost of ₹12 crore. This bridge connects Bobbili to Parvathipuram and its opening has eased traffic movement on the route. Earlier, lorry and bus drivers had to take diversion routes and traffic jams were frequently reported along the route.The Roads and Buildings department has completed a trial run of the bridge on the Vegavati river located near Paradi village in Bobbili Assembly constituency. The bridge was constructed at a cost of ₹17 crore. Currently, heavy vehicles are being allowed through the causeway. Soon, after the remaining works completion the bridge will open to all traffic.Parvathipuram TDP MLA Bonela Vijaya Chandra had requested the Roads and Buildings Department to give top priority for the maintenance of the bridge over the Suvarnamukhi River and the road connecting to Parvathipuram city.The MLA claimed that “The previous YSRCP government had ignored the project. But the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had sanctioned funds and ensured its completion quickly.”Bobbili MLA Baby Nayana said that road repair works between Ramabhadrapuram and Bobbili had been completed after the government sanctioned the funds.
