Twilight Meets Derry Girls In CBS’s New Sitcom Hit

Published Oct 13, 2026, 9:30 PM EDT Arielle Port started as a TV producer, developing content for Netflix (Firefly Lane, Brazen) and Hallmark (The Santa Stakeout, A Christmas Treasure) before transitioning into entertainment journalism. Her love of story went from interest to lifelong passion while at The University of Pennsylvania, where she fell in with a student-run web series, Classless TV, and it was a gateway drug. Arielle Port has been a Writer for Screen Rant since August 2024. She lives in Los Angeles with her boyfriend and more importantly, her cat, Boseman. In the 2010s, CBS was the network for character-driven sitcoms built around familiar premises. The nerd-centric The Big Bang Theory was the crown jewel, but Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother helped solidify the network’s reputation as the place for family and found-family multi-cam sitcoms. Two years after The Big Bang Theory ended, Ghosts premiered, and the show felt like a gamble as a supernatural, single-camera comedy. However, it was adapted from the popular British show, with an infusion of CBS’s brand of broader, brighter, more sentimental humor. Five years later, Ghosts is now CBS’s flagship comedy, which is why the network revived a long-dead script from the series' co-showrunners. Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, the writing team behind Ghosts, had a supernatural script they developed over a decade ago, which is now CBS’s newest sitcom. Port and Wiseman bring their experience writing about long long-term relationships and their expertise in fantasy comedy to the world of vampires in Eternally Yours. So far, only the pilot has been released — though Eternally Yours already has stellar Rotten Tomatoes scores — but it’s an exciting, fresh spin on a vampire story. Eternally Yours asks if Twilight’s Bella and Edward would be quite as hot for each other 500 years after committing to forever. With a coven — or family of vampires — living in current times trying to blend in with modern society, Eternally Yours has a dash of young-adult woes à la Derry Girls, particularly through its younger characters. Eternally Yours Brings Together The Core Stories Of Twilight & Derry Girls Paramount Press Express Eternally Yours takes the central romance of Twilight and asks what happens when Edward and Bella have spent half of a millennium together. Would they still find each other irresistible, or would the same little quirks that once endeared them to each other become unbearable? CBS’s new sitcom finds comedy in the less glamorous side of forever, following a vampire family trying to maintain a relatively normal lifestyle while living and working in modern society. Charles (Ed Weeks) and Liz (Allegra Edwards) have been together for centuries, but their family is entering a new era. Their adopted daughter, Emma (Helen J. Shen), is only 150 years old, while their nephews, Henry (Shylo Molina) and Mort (Tristan Michael Brown), are half-vampire, half-human twins navigating their own complicated identities. The generational divide gives Eternally Yours more to explore than the novelty of watching vampires deal with contemporary life. By the end of the episode, Max joins Emma's coven, setting up a very different kind of relationship dynamic for future episodes. Emma's supernatural circumstances give familiar young-adult anxieties an absurd new twist, much as Derry Girls found brilliant comedy in its teenagers' personal dramas against the turbulent backdrop of 1990s Northern Ireland. Both shows use a specific setting to tell a very relatable story about the anxieties of growing up. For Emma, that crisis just happens to involve immortality, a vampire family, and a boyfriend who has suddenly learned that monsters are real. By combining Twilight's eternal-romance premise with Derry Girls' chaotic coming-of-age energy, Eternally Yours gives its supernatural sitcom setup a relatable emotional core. Paramount Press Express Eternally Yours is a brilliant twist on the relationship sitcom: when you're a vampire, the stakes of a long-term romance are literally forever. With fewer characters to introduce and service than the sprawling ensemble of Ghosts, the Eternally Yours pilot has room to establish its central relationships and comedic engine quickly. Joe Port and Joe Wiseman's track record also gives Eternally Yours a strong foundation. Ghosts has proved that Port and Wiseman know how to generate seemingly endless stories from a supernatural premise while revealing mythology and character backstories at a satisfying pace. Vampires offer a similarly deep well of genre lore, but the biggest vampire TV shows and movies are often dramas, from Twilight and The Vampire Diaries to Interview with the Vampire. Buffy the Vampire Slayer famously bridged comedy and drama, using supernatural threats as metaphors for the pains of adolescence. What We Do in the Shadows is another standout vampire comedy, but its approach is very different. Its vampires are so spectacularly dysfunctional that their attempts to blend into modern society are often the joke itself. Eternally Yours offers CBS something different: a warm, relationship-centered family comedy in which the supernatural amplifies everyday problems. With promising early Rotten Tomatoes scores, experienced comedy creators, and a premise built for recurring stories, Eternally Yours has the ingredients CBS has historically rewarded. Only time will tell whether it becomes the network's next big sitcom hit, but it makes a compelling case for why supernatural, single-cam comedy could remain central to CBS's future.
