More flights go there from Istanbul Airport (IST) than anywhere else except within Turkey and to Germany. The dominance of America is less about local passengers and, of course, more about transit traffic via IST. Turkish Airlines began flying to the US nearly 40 years ago, in 1988. Flights originally operated to New York JFK via Brussels, with the inaugural nonstop transatlantic operation occurring in 1994. Fast-forward to the plan for 2027, and three airports have just secured more flights from IST. Turkish Airlines Adds Record Flights To Atlanta The Star Alliance member has flown to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) since 2016. Everyone knows that it is the world's busiest airport for passenger traffic, but not for flights. Until now, OAG data shows that the carrier has not served the market with more than ten passenger flights a week. This frequency first appeared in the summer of 2024 and returned in 2025. It was also available in 2026, albeit for a shorter-than-normal duration, perhaps influenced by the ongoing war in Iran. Even more flights are planned for 2027. As disclosed by Ishrion Aviation, Turkish Airlines will have 12 weekly departures to ATL next summer, with the new schedule shown below. Perhaps the expansion is partly influenced by passengers still being uneasy about connecting at Gulf hubs, which includes with Etihad Airways, whose ATL debut took place in 2025. In the 12 months to June 2026, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) shows that Turkish Airlines transported 215,954 passengers to/from ATL and had a load factor of 79.4%. Both fell year-over-year. Booking data shows that approximately three in four passengers transited to another flight in IST. The top ten markets were ATL to/from Athens, Cairo, Mumbai, Dhaka, Rome, Adana, Dubai, Delhi, Lahore, and Ankara. Flights launched amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. After initially being served four times weekly, the frequency jumped to a daily offering in 2022 and, for a limited time only, to a high of ten weekly departures at times in 2024, 2025, and 2026. They are on the rise again, with 12 weekly services planned for next summer (rather than the 11 mentioned by Ishrion Aviation). It will, therefore, be a new record. Like with the other routes mentioned in this article, it adds confidence to the market's performance. The DOT shows that 226,927 passengers were transported between July 2026 and June 2025, which made DFW Turkish Airlines' eighth most-trafficked US route. 81.7% of seats were filled, which was below average, but that says nothing of the fares. Almost 80% of passengers connected in IST, with DFW to/from Mumbai being the number one market. Delhi was second, followed by Cairo, Karachi, Athens, Amman, Medinah, Jeddah, Lahore, and Beirut. Between then and 2021, the frequency did not exceed daily service. In 2022, 19 weeks had a record ten weekly departures. Since then, the number of flights has been reduced to a maximum of a daily offering, and even less during the cold season. Expansion is back. Next summer, the route, which is Turkish Airlines' shortest to the US, will rise to nine flights a week. While not a record, it is going in the right direction. Clearly, the airline must be sufficiently happy with forward bookings in terms of volume and fares. With 164,529 passengers in the 12 months to June 2026, BOS was the carrier's second-smallest US market. 83.4% of seats were filled, which was about average.
