THOMAS TUCHEL has handed Trent Alexander-Arnold a final chance to prove he should be a part of England’s future. But outcast Harry Maguire was told he had effectively wrecked his chances of playing under the Three Lions boss. Tuchel promised Alexander-Arnold, who has played under him just once, a chance to stake his claim. Sign up for the Chelsea newsletter Thank you! But he warned: “I am not sure a lot of things have changed. “I know what he is capable of. I know about his talent. He is desperate to play for England and he will fight for his shirt.” Alexander-Arnold and Palmer were among ten players selected who did not feature in the World Cup. Six players are out injured and Arsenal’s Noni Madueke and Saudi-based Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney also missing from the 27-man squad. Injuries to Djed Spence, Reece James and Ben White saw the door re-opened for Alexander-Arnold, 27. Tuchel revealed he had NOT spoken to the former Liverpool man since the difficult conversation to rule him out of World Cup selection. It’s necessary. My conviction is that he will but he has no choice.” Alexander-Arnold has made five appearances, starting three, out of Madrid’s seven games this season. Boss Jose Mourinho picked him to play as a central midfielder in a Champions League win over Inter Milan earlier this month. But Tuchel said: “He had a good start in two positions for Real Madrid and he comes as a right-back for us.” Tuchel was far more effusive about Palmer and the uncapped Alex Scott, set to make his international bow with four matches against Spain, the Czech Republic twice and Croatia. He added: “Cole has his numbers back, assists and decisive goals. He has a point to prove “Alex Scott is a fantastic football player and character, so humble and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.” Tuchel is open about having reservations regarding Alexander-Arnold’s all-round game Credit: AFP Leeds’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin has returned as the back-up to skipper Harry Kane, with Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite getting the nod over Levi Colwill. There were recalls for Newcastle full-back pair Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, as well as Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly. But Nottingham Forest skipper Morgan Gibbs-White was snubbed again, as was Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden. Maguire appears to have blown any chance of coming back after his public criticism of the German for omitting him from the World Cup. Tuchel said: “It does not help. I will not hold it against him for the rest of his life, because I’m not that type of person. I can forget easily and quickly. “But I didn’t like it and it doesn’t help. I’ve not spoken to him since.” Comment now
