Toronto’s Rogers Stadium Suffers “Significant Damage” in Powerful Storm

Toronto’s Rogers Stadium sustained “significant damage” after a powerful storm tore through the city on Wednesday, September 2nd, leaving portions of the 50,000-capacity venue visibly mangled. Live Nation Canada confirmed the damage in a statement Wednesday night. “Fortunately, no one was injured during today’s extreme weather event,” the company said. “We are currently assessing the extent of the damage.” Photos and video from the venue show collapsed framing and torn coverings around the stadium grounds. Some communities recorded wind gusts approaching 62 mph, while thousands of homes and businesses remained without power Thursday morning. The weather also flooded major roads, disrupted subway service, and caused delays and cancellations at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The storm’s timing may complicate the final stretch of Rogers Stadium’s concert season. AC/DC are scheduled to bring their “Power Up Tour” to the venue on September 16th, currently the only remaining show listed on Rogers Stadium’s official calendar. Neither Live Nation nor AC/DC has announced any change to the concert as of Thursday morning. Rogers Stadium opened quite recently in June 2025 on the former Downsview Airport lands. Built as a temporary, seasonal outdoor venue, the facility can hold 50,000 fans and was constructed in roughly nine months to accommodate the growing number of stadium-scale tours passing through Toronto. Since opening its doors, the venue has received a steady stream of complaints from local residents and concertgoers, who have cited traffic gridlock, overcrowding, noise, and the quality of its construction as ongoing issues. Some even welcomed the damage caused by the storm. Its inaugural season featured shows by Coldplay, Oasis, BLACKPINK, and Stray Kids. The venue had hosted Chris Stapleton’s All-American Road Show just one day before the storm hit. For now, Live Nation says it is still determining exactly how much repair work will be required.
