THE shops may be filled with clothes for the new season, but there is a cheaper way to refresh your wardrobe. Many retailers put on secret sales and offer new outfits and shoes at discounted prices. SHOP TO IT: Many retailers sell off their excess stock to outlet stores. These can crop up anywhere — for example, there’s a Paul Smith Sale Shop tucked away in Marylebone, London, and a Mulberry Factory Shop in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. You can also find a number of big-name brands in one place at shopping villages or malls across the country. SAMPLE SALES: Brands sometimes sell off clothes that were originally part of the design process in sample sales. These events often take place a couple of times a year and are always eagerly awaited. Often, sample sales are ticketed to help control crowds of eager shoppers, but entry is usually free — or a nominal fee is charged.
