THREE Russian men face life in prison after they were seduced into sharing Kremlin military secrets in a Ukrainian honeytrap scam. Confirming the blunder, the agency said: “The Federal Security Service has detained three Russian citizens, born in 1988, 1994, and 1995, recruited by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, in the Republic of Crimea. “Three residents of the region, using a popular online dating site, began corresponding with Marina Kucherak, a GUR employee of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, who used fictitious names on the website and claimed to be a Crimean woman forced to leave for Ukraine.” Agent Marina posed as a woman from Russian-occupied Crimea Credit: East2West The men shared confidential information on Russian armed forces bases Credit: East2West Agent Marina got the men to send her photos, videos and even coordinates of military installation including air defence systems, an oil depot, storage and loading points for fuel and lubricants belonging to the Russian Armed Forces. One of the men admitted to falling to Agent Marina’s charms after they developed a “mutual attraction”. He said: “As we were chatting, it became clear she was currently in Kyiv. “Initially, she said her brother was connected to some military personnel, and after a while, she said she was in the military herself. He said his Crimean pen pal was interested in information on air defence systems. With inside information on a ballistic missile launch, he willingly “warned them in advance that a missile was heading in such and such a direction”. But what started as a casual conversation developed into the man divluging secrets. He said: “When you’re on a dating site, you spend a lot of time liking things, and our likes matched, so we messaged each other. “At first, we just talked about general topics. She said she was actually from [Crimea] but now in Ukraine. “She was interested in military units, unit movements, and equipment movements. The FSB warned Russian men that Ukrainian intelligence agencies “are trying to involve citizens in illegal activities to harm our country, and that those who assist the enemy will be held accountable”. Back in 2024 Germany accused Russia of using the same sneaky honey-traps on those looking for love online and trying to steal their information.
