Three dead after small plane crashes into mountain high in the Alps as emergency services rush to scene

THREE people have been killed after a plane crashed in the Alps. The tragedy unfolded shortly after 4pm on Tuesday during a flight from Ticino to Nidwalden, Switzerland. Eyewitnesses reported seeing heavy clouds of thick smoke spiralling away from the crash site. Tragically, all three people aboard the Cirrus SR22T died at the scene. The reasons for the crash are still unclear, said Valais police in a statement. Police said they were working to identify the victims. Alongside the Valais cantonal police and the regional rescue team, two local fire brigades and the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSB) have been deployed to examine the site of the accident. Multiple investigations have been opened into the collision by the STSB and the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland with Valais police.
