Three commercial vessels struck in Hormuz since 1 Oct, UKMTO says

Attacks on commercial ships witnessed a surge during the past three days, as at least three tankers were struck by unidentified projectiles in and around the Strait of Hormuz, according to United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) warnings. Early Saturday, UKMTO reported that a crude oil tanker was hit on its port side approximately 4 nautical miles east of Oman. A day earlier, an outbound vessel suffered a small fire and blackout, while a second crude tanker was struck nearby. On Thursday, a supertanker carrying 2.5 million barrels caught fire after being hit off Oman while transiting an unauthorised route, according to Iran's Fars news agency. In its weekly Voluntary Reporting Area Overview released on 2 October, UKMTO said 91 incidents of damage to vessels have been reported since February this year. Three tankers have been struck in and around the Strait of Hormuz since 1 October 2026. (AFP)
