This Week’s Festivals: Sept. 13 to Sept. 19

Sept. 13, 2000 The National Historical Institute installed a historical marker at Torrijos, Marinduque, in commemoration of the “Marinduque Revolutionary Force.” Following the outbreak of hostilities between the Filipinos and Americans on Feb. 4, 1899, then Gov. Martin Lardizabal organized the Marinduque Revolutionary Force pursuant to the order of Gen. Mariano Trias of the Southern Command on May 6, 1900. It was divided into two distinct military units—the Infantry Battalion and the Militia Battalion, which were composed of male members from the municipalities of Boac, Santa Cruz, Gasan, Mogpog and Torrijos towns (Buenavista town had not yet been established at that time), all of whom underwent military training in Boac. The forces were able to defeat the American forces in the Battle of Paye in Boac on July 31, 1900, and in the Battle of Pulang Lupa in Torrijos on Sept. 13, 1900. Sept. 15, 2025 Iloilo City unveiled its Nutrition Center production facility, which aims to provide nutritious food and promote healthier eating habits in the community. Targeting malnourished children aged six months to three years, the facility can produce at least 1,000 packs a day of “rice-mongo-sesame” blend complementary food option developed by the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute. Dubbed “Rais-Sustansya,” the complementary food is a ready-to-cook mix of rice, mung beans and sesame seeds, offering 4 grams of protein and 39 kilocalorie of energy per 30-gram pack. One pack meets 18 percent of the recommended daily energy intake, and 28.6 percent of the recommended protein intake for children six months to less than 10 months. Singkaban Festival (Sept. 8 to Sept. 15) The Singkaban Festival, also known as “SinING at KAlinangan ng BulacAN” and the “mother of all festivals,” is a province-wide annual celebration held in Bulacan. The term “singkaban” means a decorated bamboo arch, which is used as a welcome signage of a town, city or village in the country. Under the theme, “Culture of Integrity, Legacy of Unity,” this year’s weeklong festival will be bringing together communities from all over the province to celebrate culture, heritage, and unity. The opening ceremony on Sep. 8 featured the colorful Parada ng Karosa, as well as the launching of the “Singkaban ng Bayan: Bulacan Travel and Tourism Fair at the Capitol Mini Forest,” which will also run for the whole duration of the festival. Article continues after this advertisement Naga Creative Industries Festival (Sept. 15 to Sept. 19) The Tagboan 2026: Naga Creative Industries Festival will take place in Naga City, Camarines Sur, as the city joins the nationwide celebration of the Philippine Creative Industries Month. The festival will run for five days at Balatas Development Complex, featuring various exhibits and competitions, concerts, a food fair, toy fair, the launch of “Naga is the Heart” theme song, and more.
