After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. GPU is still emulated via shadPS4 (heavily extended for Bloodborne); CPU code runs natively. Not fully verified - needs game dump v1.09, Vulkan 1.3 GPU, RDNA2 for FSR4; expect bugs. There has been a huge wave of unofficial console ports to the PC over the past few days. Our gaming editor, Patrick O'Rourke, has been hard at work documenting them all, with the latest being Super Mario Bros. Wonder making its way onto PC. Now, someone has gotten Bloodborne running on a Linux machine, and while it's not fully native, it's still very impressive. This Bloodborne project runs the original PS4 executable directly on your CPU The graphics still need some assistance, though Source: FromSoftware The project is called bbport, and while other projects akin to this one have managed to achieve a native port, this one doesn't quite fit the bill. The introduction for the project is promising: "bbport runs the original PlayStation 4 executable of Bloodborne (CUSA03173, game version 1.09) directly on an x86-64 Linux PC. It is not a general emulator. The game's own x86-64 code executes natively; a small runtime written for this one game replaces the PS4 system libraries." So, what's the problem? Well, while the CPU is running Bloodborne's code, bbport still needs the assistance of shadPS4 to get the graphics rendered. Granted, the project does use a "heavily extended" version of shadPS4 specifically for Bloodborne, which is impressive in its own right; however, at the end of the day, it's still emulation. So the CPU runs natively while the GPU emulates. A full playthrough has not been verified yet, and it has only been thoroughly tested on one machine, so be ready for bugs if you decide to run this yourself. You'll need your own game dump (v1.09), a Vulkan 1.3 GPU, and for FSR 4 an RDNA2 or newer card, with Nvidia and Intel being untested at the time of writing. You can grab the files over on the bbport repo.
