This Hotel Left Hyatt And Refused Award Stays—Now They’re Welcoming It Back

The Last Hotel in St. Louis abruptly left Hyatt in 2021 and stopped honoring existing award reservations. Now the same property is coming back as a Hyatt Centric after an ownership feud and sudden shutdown. Georgia-based Singh Investment Group bought the shuttered property this year for $14 million and is bringing it back into Hyatt under a different brand. It Was Already A Hyatt And Left In Less Than A Year last is the form used to shape a shoe. On June 30, 2020, Hyatt announced that the property had joined its Unbound Collection, with HRI Lodging taking over management. By noon on May 24, 2021, the affiliation was over. As I reported at the time: Paid reservations would still be honored, but guests would lose Hyatt points and benefits. Existing award reservations wouldn’t be honored. I asked Hyatt what they were doing for members. They said they were working to move award bookings to other Hyatt and affiliated hotels and simply said, We always ensure members’ points and rewards are refunded in these types of situations. The Place Was A Financial Mess The original developer was Tim Dixon’s Fe Equus Development, which sold its stake to a group including Qualizza. And on the very day the hotel left Hyatt, the St. Louis Business Journal reported a fight over the property’s financing. U.S. Bank had sued. A new company had taken over operations from HRI Lodging. An earlier management company, Trust Hospitality, had separately sued over a claimed wrongful termination. By May 2024, Maverick Hotels and Restaurants announced it was managing the property. That arrangement didn’t last, either. Guests Were Told To Find Another Hotel The Last Hotel closed abruptly on March 6, 2025 with the property in receivership. About 82 guests were told to find somewhere else to stay. Employees lost their jobs. The customer service response was a note on the door telling guests to “locate another hotel ASAP” and directed guests to TripAdvisor. New Owners Bought It For $14 Million In March 2026, Singh Investment Group bought the property for $14 million or about $99,000 per room. It had been offered for $16.5 million. The hotel is expected to re-open October 15, following a modest $4 million renovation. Hyatt already has a Hyatt Centric Downtown St. Louis website. Topics on this page
