Genuins offers a similar leather-and-cork look with its Riva clog, but after trying a pair myself, I found one major difference: They were comfortable from the first wear. The Genuins Riva Leather Clog is currently priced at $139.95 on Amazon. The slip-on clog features a leather upper, anatomical cork footbed with EVA cushioning and a lightweight EVA outsole. Genuins sent me a pair to try, and while there are some noticeable differences compared with my Birkenstocks, the brand’s claim of little to no break-in time held true for me.Do Genuins clogs need to be broken in?Part of what makes Birkenstocks so comfortable over time is also what can make a brand-new pair feel stiff. The cork-latex footbed gradually conforms to the shape of your foot with wear, creating a more personalized fit, but getting there can require a break-in period.Genuins takes a slightly different approach with the Riva. The brand says its anatomical cork footbed also molds to your foot over time, but the clog is designed to feel comfortable from the first step. That was my experience with the Riva. I didn’t have to wait for the shoes to become comfortable before I could enjoy wearing them. The leather upper felt good immediately, and I didn’t experience the uncomfortable rubbing or pressure that can come with breaking in a new pair of clogs. The cork footbed should continue adapting to my feet the more I wear them, but the biggest difference so far is that I didn’t have to sacrifice comfort to get to that point.Genuins Riva Leather ClogsThe unisex Genuins Riva leather clog features an anatomical cork footbed that molds to the foot over time without requiring the typical break-in period.$139.95 at AmazonHow do Genuins clogs compare to Birkenstocks? The Riva certainly looks similar to the popular Birkenstock Boston, from its closed-toe leather upper and adjustable buckle to the cork footbed underneath. However, I wouldn’t call the two shoes identical. My Birkenstocks feel more cushioned underneath the foot. The Riva’s outsole has a firmer, more plastic-like feel, something I noticed when comparing the pairs side by side. However, the Riva won me over when it came to immediate comfort. I could put them on and wear them without waiting for the footbed or upper to become comfortable.Genuins also says every pair is made in Elche, Spain, using responsibly harvested cork and leather sourced from Leather Working Group Gold-certified tanneries. For those who like the classic leather clog look but dread breaking in a new pair, the Riva offers an interesting alternative. They aren’t an exact replacement for Birkenstocks, particularly when it comes to the feel of the outsole, but after wearing them myself, the immediate comfort is what makes them stand out.Disclosure: Genuins provided a pair of Riva clogs for review.
