Sign in to your ScreenRant account Despite The Witcher video game franchise beginning back in 2007 with the launch of the aptly named The Witcher by CD Projekt RED, which was later followed by The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011, it is safe to say that 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the entry that finally cemented the franchise as one of the best. Now with The Witcher IV on the way, seeing Geralt pass down the mantle to surrogate daughter, Ciri, as well as the launch of the third and final The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC, Songs of the Past, the future is looking bright for fans of the beloved RPG series. That being said, there is still some time to wait until these major releases, but this is the perfect thing to keep you occupied in the meantime. The Witcher 3: The Last Wish is a stunning mod for the hit CD Projekt RED title that aims to bring The Witcher book series to life more than ever. What many people forget, is that before it was an award-winning video game series, The Witcher franchise began its life as a book series by author Andrzej Sapkowski. It was way back in 1986 that the character of Geralt of Rivia was first introduced after Sapkowski won a short story contest and then, in 1993, The Last Wish was first published in Polish, before finally being translated to English in 2007. Whilst the video game series has taken inspiration from the original source material, it is not an exact copy, but The Witcher 3: The Last Wish aims to change that. As the creators say, "The Last Wish Project is a fan-made, non-commercial video game recreation of the original Sapkowski book "The Last Wish", which aims to recreate the original stories into playable quests and interactive worlds to explore in REDengine 3." "As Mr. Sapkowski once wrote, life can be as sad as a cow headed for slaughter. I hope this non-commercial project cheers you up. Many things felt visually the most present in the first Witcher, and the first game remains a strong artistic inspiration for the project in many aspects. The Last Wish Project is designed as an action adventure." With the alpha version of The Last Wish now available to download courtesy of Nexus Mods, players can expect "a fully playable recreation of the original Witcher book with a true devotion to the source material" and with over 2,000 downloads, it is safe to say that this The Witcher 3 mod is already a major hit with fans. If you want another excuse to boot up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, look no further than this incredible free download.
