It has been over a year since The Wheel of Time was unceremoniously canceled after airing on Amazon Prime Video for three seasons. Despite rave reviews, the show, inspired by the book series of the same name by author Robert Jordan, came to an end back in March 2025, and since then, fans have been campaigning for its return. As such, the #SaveWoT campaign went viral, but at the time of writing, it is to no avail. With high production costs and viewership trends as contributing factors for the cancellation, it seems as though The Wheel of Time's supposed popularity was just not enough and now, fans are having to turn to the original book series for more of the fantasy world. However, it is not all doom and gloom, as a thrilling new release arriving in 2027 is set to turn the entire franchise on its head. The Wheel of Time Returns in 2027 Created by Dire Wolf, War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is an upcoming board game inspired by Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series, and now, it is available to support courtesy of an ongoing Kickstarter and BackerKit campaign. With 6,156 backers pledging a whopping $1,166,993 towards this project, it is safe to say that the #SaveWoT warriors are back in full force and are willing to do what it takes to keep the series alive. Although pledging is no longer available, you can still follow along with the project over on Kickstarter, giving you the chance to stay up to date with its upcoming release. So what is War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time? Well, the grand strategy board game "chronicles the epic conflict between the forces of light and darkness, embodied in Rand al'Thor, The Dragon Reborn, and his eternal nemesis, The Dark One." As such, players will be able to step into these iconic roles in order to wage war against a land of magic, ancient prophecies, and powerful armies. Will you save the world or destroy it? Take On Iconic Roles From the Show Gameplay consists of tableau building, action selection, and area control as players pick between two ways to play: Hero Mode or Epic Mode. Hero Mode is recommended for up to four players, and consists of The Dragon and The Dark One as they gather trusted allies and lieutenants to complete missions and assert control over certain regions. In comparison, Epic Mode is for two players, and will see the stakes increase as you "take to the field with powerful armies that you can upgrade and enhance throughout the game." Whichever you choose, War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time will cover the events of some iconic moments, such as The Battle of Two Rivers and the Last Battle, and so fans of both the original book series and the show will be able to dive in to the action, although no time has passed.
