Premiering in 2010, the series quickly became one of the biggest titles on AMC, following a group of survivors as they attempt to survive a zombie apocalypse. Andrew Lincoln's Rick was central to the series for years, but the character departed the show in season 9, eventually making a welcome return in a spinoff show called The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Per a new listing on Blu-ray.com, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is now getting a new release this fall in the form of an official Blu-ray. The Blu-ray is set to arrive on October 20 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon. The Ones Who Live picks up the action after the events of The Walking Dead series finale, chronicling the long-awaited reunion between Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Rick as they deal with a new threat. The series, which was created by Scott M. Gimple, Lincoln, and Gurira, premiered in February 2024 and consists of six episodes. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live season 2 has not been confirmed, and the show was seemingly designed as a limited series. Interestingly, however, the cover art for the Blu-ray release, included above, very clearly includes "Season 1," suggesting AMC could be leaving the door open for an additional season of the spinoff. The upcoming Blu-ray release for The Ones Who Live follows a positive critical reception and strong viewership performance. On Rotten Tomatoes, the Walking Dead spinoff series enjoys an 88% critics' score, with praise aimed at the performances and the continuation of Rick and Michonne's story, as well as the show's blockbuster-sized set pieces. In terms of viewership, The Ones Who Live was a major win for AMC. In its first three days of availability, the show pulled in three million viewers, setting a new record for the AMC+ streaming service. The response to the show, then, certainly bodes well for a potential season 2. The Ones Who Live is one of several Walking Dead spinoffs to follow the conclusion of the flagship series. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is gearing up for season 4, which will be its last, while The Walking Dead: Dead City is in the midst of season 3. Gimple, the franchise's chief content officer, has confirmed that the world of the show will live on with additional projects in the years to come, though he didn't reveal specifics. It's unclear how popular the Blu-ray release for The Ones Who Live will be, but strong sales figures could help to further justify a continuation of Rick and Michonne's story. While many questions remain about The Walking Dead's future, the physical media release of the Rick-focused spinoff is evidently an exciting one for collectors.
